I agree with you, backlinks can support the web for search engine optimization and get traffic from SE.

Viral marketing is also good way to get back links. Your product will be mentioned by many review sites, thus you can get quality back links from these high profile sites.

Many say that having backlinks coming from .edu, .gov and .mil are very effective in getting a favor from the search engines. I have managed to get some .gov and .edu links by commenting on education establishment blogs and government blogs. mil back links are quite difficult, though.

Social bookmarking and blog commenting also work wonders. Usually, that's even easier than video and article marketing.
