Charnita FanceTwo New Twitter AIR Applications Worth Trying Out

Statuzer and Mixero are two of a kind Twitter applications, yet they both possess very unique and useful features that are great for managing and monitoring your Twitter accounts. Statuzer is publically availble while Mixero requires an invitation code. If you follow Mixero on Twitter you will get a DM about 1-2 weeks later with a code to try it out; it’s definitely worth the wait. If you’re not sure which one is better for your, hopefully this will give you an idea.

Statuzer

Statuzer is very reminiscent of TweetDeck and Seesmic desktop; you can monitor your Twitter account(s) in single column or multiple column view. For those of you that have more than one Twitter account, Statuzer does support multiple Twitter account management.

Ping.fm is also integrated and can be enabled or disabled. When enabled, all your tweets will be sent out to all your social accounts via Ping.fm. You can customize Statuzer’s color scheme or pick a premade theme. You can also customize the sounds that play for updates, replies, mentions and direct messages.

Monitor mode allows you to three columns by default – your friends timeline, replies and direct messages for all accounts you’ve added. You can add more columns if you like. You can also search within your columns for certain keywords, users, etc.

Statuzer has a built in URL shortener with four different services to choose from. You can even take snapshots straight from your webcam and then share those snapshots via TwitPic or upload one as your new Twitter profile picture.

A unique feature Statuzer has is that you can search and listen to music via Jamendo. As you’re listening to a song you can even tweet what you’re listening to. It’s also nice that you can view TwitPic images within the tweets in your timeline. Finally, you can create contact group filters and block filters.

Mixero

Mixero avatar view in background. Mixero happens to be one of the most unique Twitter applications I’ve ever seen. It has 2 panels and a middle navigation area. In your left panel you can view your friends timeline, your own tweets, replies, favorites, incoming direct messages and outgoing direct messages. In the right panel you can view contacts and channels – this is also where you can create new channels and create contact groups.

The items in your left panel  can be filtered by keywords. You can also only show unread items and mark all items as read. Just like Statuzer, you can share pictures uploaded from your computer via TwitPic and you can choose to automatically shorten URLS and specify which service you prefer to use.

Channels are basically search terms/keywords that you can monitor. You can even choose to show keywords from only specific users if you choose to. You can then add these channels to your “active lists” for close monitoring.

A unique feature Mixero has is the way it handles groups and channels. Once you create a group of contacts you can customize each group with an icon. If you add the group to your “active list” to monitor, you can view how many new direct messages you have from the contacts in that group and how many new updates have been posted.

If you choose to user Mixer in “avatar mode” when in the the background, only the group icons along with your main home icon will show on your desktop. From there update and direct messages messages will update in real-time.

Lastly, you can pop out panels in a separate window so that you can monitor more than one set/group at a time. The Mixero website has a great video that shows you all of the details.

Mixero - The new generation Twitter client.

To be honest, I love both of the applications almost equally. At this time I really can’t choose between the two but I am leaning towards Mixero. How about you?

Which one do you like better and why?

Great article, thanks. Will try it out.

There are so many Twitter apps these days I can not keep up anymore. Surely someone can develop one application that actually provides value to twitter. Many new apps try to “re-design” twitter, if it isn’t broken don’t fix it.
