Rob StarrGetting Those Blog Comments

ecommerce-3Getting comments on your blog means much more than just getting feedback on what you’re saying. People who take the time to respond to your blog have often bookmarked you and hopefully linked to your site. Regardless, getting blog comments is something that you should have in mind if you’re promoting your blog and want to get a better ranking. There are a few tried and true methods that help you to get these blog comments but remember that you need to be sure that’s what you want. It’s not the purpose of ever blog to get feedback.

  1. The idea behind this method of promotion is not always to sell a product or service. Some bloggers just want to have a conversation on the topic with other people who share similar interests. Remember that people like to be informed when others leave a comment so it’s a great idea to offer an RSS feed for replies as well. That gives people the motivation to take an active interest in your blog.
  2. Write in a clear and concise way. All too often blogs are confused and/or muddled and although it’s apparent that the blogger has a point to make, quite often it’s not clear just what that is. Remember that one of the quick ways to turn someone off your blog is to write badly. Here it helps to write down a few points before you start on the blog.
  3. Do something to engage people. Generally people love to give their opinions. When you ask for them on someone’s blog, you’re sure to get responses and some additional traffic to the blog. Another good technique is to ask a question that demands an answer.
  4. Make it easy for readers to comment while keeping security in mind. You want readers to comment and throwing too many procedures at them will complicate the whole thing. Making them log in or register can send some people away but moderating comments yourself is a good idea. Remember here, however, that you need to be timely. Making readers wait too long is another way to turn them off.

Remember that you need to plan a strategy for getting comments on your blog almost in the same way that you need to get a great design mapped out in the first place. When you find the best way to do that, you’ll find that getting comments on your blog will keep it fresh.

That was a nice introductory article. We are trying to do the same with covering of a niche subject. Reading your article gave me the realization that I am following almost all the tips. Thanks for sharing. :)

I’ve never found that people actually follow the RSS feed for comments. However, it’s probably a good idea to have it anyways, just in case.

  3. Writing an engaging article does help get comments on blogs, but the problem I am having is actually getting people to my blog. I had a lot of traffic at one point but I found they were just bots spamming my comments. Now that I have resolved that I am looking to generate a readership that will bring their thought to the table as well.

  4. That was a nice introductory article.

  5. Great article, I think that another aspect of good blog posting is making sure the post is relevant.

  6. Comments are great as an author and blog owner. When you write a post it is wonderful to see readers react and share their thoughts with you.

I have found that getting more comments usually involves me writing a specific styled post. You are right about being clear and engaging but I would go a step further… Have a strong opinion.

Then those that either agree or disagree will leave comments and get a good dialogue going. Some great tips!

  7. Ann says:

I have never used the RSS feed. I have seen it on several blogs but never really knew what it was for. I am now going to find a site and click on it and see where I end up. Thanks for the information. I enjoyed reading your article.
