Rob StarrGet Your Blog Noticed With Email Marketing

Written by Rob Starr from Rob Starr

Your blog might have something personal to say. It might be full of your personal thoughts or remembrances, it might be about the fun you’ve had renovating your home or your hobby or favorite sport.

Or you might even use it for your business.

Regardless, setting that blog up and posting to it isn’t always enough to get it noticed. You can rest assured that there are untold other blogs out there on the same subject, and if you’re in business and using the blog as a modern day business card or way to advertise through a custom WordPress installation on your website, more than likely you already know about the need for some kind of search engine optimization (seo) technique.

A More Direct Method

There are ways to get the word out on that blog regardless of its nature and one of the more traditional methods is all about email marketing. For any email marketing campaign to be successful, you’ll need to understand how these best work and what you can do to set one up so that it drives the kind of traffic to your site that will promote your cause, whatever that might be.

The Mailing List

Every seo technique that you can use has a set of specific tools that act as the engine to drive keyword rankings and email marketing uses the mailing list as its centerpiece. You need to remember here as well that it’s far better to have an opt in list of customers that have agreed to have your blog mailed to them than trying to nail down a market using  less direct techniques. Of course the first thing you’ll need to do is develop a mailing list and there are specific things here that help that along.

1.      One of the techniques that you can use is also one of the oldest  in the book and that’s offer something for free for signing up for the opt in list. This works especially well when you’re in business or have something to promote or sell. Getting a professional content writer to put together an ebook is a great way to get people to sign on.

2.      Interactive Events like contests are another great seo technique. When you sponsor some kind of contest on your site people are drawn in and they are more likely to return.

3.      Article Marketing. Here’s a method again that may or may not involve a content writer depending on the nature of your blog. In other words, you’re more than likely a good writer yourself but might not have the spare time to put together a series of articles that can be distributed to syndication sites with a link back to your blog. (I’ll write more about this technique in a later post).

4.      Directories. These are a lot like the Internet’s answer to the Yellow Pages. For a small fee on some, you place a brief description and a link back to your site. When people respond here, they’re more than likely interested in opting in to your mailing list.

One of the other aspects that you might want to look at is subscribing to some kind of Internet marketing firm to help you get the email marketing campaign started. These are the people that can help you target the right audience and then sit down with you and actually design the campaign right down to the graphics that you’ll use.
