Ramkarthik3 Proven Benefits Of Blog Commenting That Bloggers NEVER Told You

Written by Ramkarthik from Blogging Tune

You will be surprised when you complete reading this blog post and start taking action.

Blog commenting is something that is being talked over and over by some bloggers. But they NEVER told you the 3 benefits that I’m going to share with you in this blog post.

In this post, you will see:

1. How blog commenting made one guy go from a normal blogger to freelance writer

2. The one comment that helped the same guy manage to get an interview with a top blogger

3. Why you are not able to get some products for free which you can easily get by following this method

If the above three points increased your curiosity, continue reading as I will be explaining all the above points in detail.

Now before I go on, let me remind that blog commenting is not writing one liners in the comments. It should add value to the post. You should not say “Great post” and end your comment. This method will not guarantee you with any of the above three.

If you are posting one line comments, change the habit from today if you can. Don’t worry; it is not as tough as you think. I was like that two years back. But once I changed my commenting style, everything changed for me.

1. How blog commenting made one guy go from a normal blogger to freelance writer

This guy is me, Ramkarthik, the one who wrote this blog post and around 80 other blog posts in this blog.

I was a normal blogger blogging at BloggingTune.Com. I used to post one line comments. But on one sunny day, I thought “Why not add value to the blog post?” That changed the way I commented on blogs.

I started commenting on BloggingTips.Com and also won a commenting competition. After this, I and Kevin had a back and forth email conversation. I was hired to write for BloggingTips.Com.

This can happen to you. Post comments in blogs, especially in the ones which are multi-authored. Blogs owners prefer to hire people who they know better. Through comments, you will become famous to them and let me tell you, your comments act as samples for freelance writing. Let me put it again:

Your comments are samples for freelance writing

2. The one comment that helped the same guy manage to get an interview from a top blogger

Yes, you guessed it right. I’m the same guy in this second case study.

When I started adding value to the blog posts in comments, I chose certain blogs where I would get back time after time and see if my replies got any replies.

One such blog is DailyBlogTips.Com. I wrote a comment in that blog and ended up talking with Daniel Scocco, the owner of DailyBlogTips.Com. He is a very good guy. When I asked him whether I could interview him, he said okay without a second thought.

And that’s how this interview with Daniel was created.

3. Why you are not able to get some products for free which you can easily get by following this method

This is not a case study but I have heard my friends say that they get products from product owners at no cost just because they comment in their blogs.

Start commenting on blogs that are owned by product owners. Grab their attention with every comment that you make. After a few days, when they release a product, ask them for a review copy. Mostly they will say yes. Get the product and review it in your blog.

How has blog commenting helped you? Have you had a good experience that resulted by a comment that you made on a blog? Please share your views in the comments.

Author comments are in a darker gray color for you to easily identify the posts author in the comments

  1. I find another great use of commenting is if you have an idea for a joint venture or some kind of collaboration with a well known blog or blogger – spend 1 week adding comments to that blog. Make sure the comments are in no way spammy, but add decent value.

After a week or so you will usually get on the radar of the owner of that blog. At this time you have a better chance of getting your email answered, whether it’s to guest author a blog post, or give you an interview, or whatever else you have in mind.

    @Ramkarthik

    Thanks

  3. Mr. I says:

These are some of the most unique benefits I have ever heared. I was also in habit of leaving one-liners but I quickly learned that they were as useful as not commenting.

Here’s a good post I read on Write to Done that has good points for writing comments: http://writetodone.com/2009/03/03/writing-workshop-what-are-you-writing-2/

I have never heared of #3 but then, I don’t care much about products. However, on relations front, comments have helped me a lot, both as blogger as well as reader.

  4. macobex says:

I’m glad that I’ve read this article, honestly. I used to comment 1 liner nonsense, but I’ve realized that 1 liner comments will make blogger think that I’m just a nonsense kid. So, I’ve decided to make my comment more serious and more detailed to prove that I’m someone with enough or advance knowledge about the discussed topic. I agree that opportunities can be found by just commenting on blogs, actually my site is featured in http://www.webtlk.com because of my frequent activity on the site.

    Thanks for this post!

  5. Ramkarthik says:

    Patrick,

Yeah joint venture is another benefit you get from blog commenting. Thanks for pointing it out.

    Bilal,

Glad this blog is of help to you

    Mr. I,

Good point there. Blog commenting indeed increases the relationship with the blog owner and also with some of the blog’s readers

    macobex,

Glad blog commenting is working for you

  6. VlogHog says:

Adding value to your comments adds value to the blog. If you like the blog you’re reading, it shouldn’t be that hard.

  7. This may be a one line comment, but you’re points about benefits aren’t benefits at all. They don’t go in depth about free lancing, and basically just self-promote. Congrats on getting a free lance job on this blog though…..

  8. Ishmael Ahab says:

I don’t know about all of you guys, but I believe that blogging is a social discourse. A virtual space where people can talk and exchange ideas.

Leaving one-liners to a blog of a total stanger will give a signal that you either did not read there post, or you just want to comment just for the link. It is as if a stranger is talking to you for so many minutes and the only reply you could give is the laconic “great”, “good” etc.

And how would the blogger that you visited will reply to the words like “great”

Will he say, “Yes, my post is great, I do agree.”

We aim to start a genuine discourse, a comment where the author could reply a counter comment. And one-liners will never ignite such discourse.

  9. Rajesh Mago says:

The points are interesting and very logical.

One grammatical point that I want to clarify from you is:

Which is right? – “comment on blog” Or “comment in blog”. You have used both versions in your present post. According to me, it should be “comment on blog”.

I have been putting comments on various blogs but irregular and untargeted.

Now, I am going to follow your commenting tips on the relevant blogs matching my work interests. Thanks!

  10. Ramkarthik says:

    Vloghog,

    Exactly. You got the point.

    Ricardo,

If you read every word in the post, you will clearly see the benefits. It seems you skimmed the post. What you are calling as self-promote is actually case study. I’m explaining every point with proof. I did that to explain to people why they should consider blog commenting seriously. Thanks for your comment.

    Ishamael,

You said it in few words what I was trying to convey in this post. Thanks.

    Rajesh,

When you say both loud, it seems like both are right. But yes, “comment on blog” is the better way to say it. When I write, I mostly write the way I speak. Maybe that’s why I got a bit confused in that part. Both sound correct (which is not) when you say it.

  11. Alex P. says:

I try not to do one liners. But after reading this, I certainly won’t do them again. And adding value works both ways. If you have many thoughts on an article, write your own blog post about it. Then come back to the article, summarize your blog post, and post a link. You’ll be adding to the discussion and hopefully getting traffic to your site.

  12. DEUX says:

After reading this article, it enlightened me by the way I am commenting on blog posts, and the effect it gives. It changed the way I look at commenting.

Note to self: One liner no more.

  13. Natasha says:

I found this post really thought provoking, but something didn’t sit right with me. The whole reason I started commenting on blogs was to encourage or inspire the blogger. To shift my focus away from encouraging/inspiring to self-indulgence seems to contradict the whole reason why blogs were started. Of course there is always a personal agenda to everything we do, but if that becomes our main focus I think it undermines the whole purpose of blogging in the first place. Maybe my view can be dismissed as overly idealistic, but my intention is to spark conversation. Should self-promotion be the reason we comment on other people’s blogs?
