Twitter User WordPress Plugin

Posted by on 1st Apr 2009 WordPress Plugins 5 comments

Twitter UserI am proud to announce the release of BloggingTips first WordPress Plugin. Thanks to everyone who previewed the plugin last week. Since then we have added a few more features :)

A huge thank you to Sarah, who developed this plugin and worked hard on making sure the plugin was both practical and easy to use.

Twitter User

Twitter User is a simple plugin which adds an additional field to the authors profile in which they can add their twitter username.

Single author blogs will find this plugin useful however we believe Multi Author blogs will really love this plugin as it allows all authors of a blog to quickly and easily share their Twitter username with readers.

You can see this plugin live at BloggingTips. Underneath every post you should see this image An example of Twitter User in action

The image links to the authors Twitter page. If the author has not added their Twitter username to their profile then the image is not displayed. You also have the option of using a text link and you can style this to suit your blogs design by adding the class twitlink to your stylesheet.

Twitter User can be downloaded from the Official WordPress Plugin Directory at the link below.

Plugin Instructions

Once Twitter User has been activated, a new profile field will be added to your blogs profile page entitled ‘Twitter Username’. You should see the new field at the bottom of the page.

Twitter User Profile Page

After entering your Twitter username, you should then check the ‘Twitter User’ settings area. This will be under the settings area of your blogs admin area (i.e. www.yourblogsdomain.com/wp-admin/options-general.php).

Twitter User Settings Page

The anchor text determines what text will link to the authors Twitter page. You can also embed this link directly after your blog posts by checking the ‘Display After Author Post?’ checkbox.

Alternatively, you can choose where the ‘Twitter User’ link is displayed by adding display_twitter(); to your index.php or single.php template files.

Overview

We hope you all find Twitter User useful. If you have any suggestions on how to improve this plugin please let us know and we will do our best to accomodate you. If you are having any problems downloading, installing or using the plugin, please create a thread in the BloggingTips WordPress Plugin Support Room.

2 images have been included in the zip file which you can use on your blog. If you want an image designed with a specific text then please drop by the forums and we will do our best to accomodate you. If you are a designer yourself and would like to share Twitter images with the community we will post the image in the Twitter User Info Page with a link back to your blog or website.
