I’m a big believer in what I call “nicheing it to success.” As in, pitching yourself to potential clients as an expert in one area. It’s been my experience that it’s easier for clients to hire you based on your expertise in one area. Once they get a feel for your writing talent, most will give you projects outside of your initially stated expertise.
Once I started doing SEO writing (Fall 2007), I haven’t looked back. It’s 75-85% of the type of work I do now. And it pays extremely well compared to the other types of writing I had been doing. Note: I never got into magazine writing, which can be a lucrative niche. I never developed the patience for querying and waiting, so I always stuck to business writing for small to medium-sized businesses.
There are many types of freelance writing jobs, but one of the most lucrative – and fast growing niches — right now is in internet marketing. Proof? Read, “SEO Investments Expected To Grow More Than 20%.” Within this niche, there are several subniches where freelance writers can specialize and find high-paying freelance writing gigs. And, there’s a lot less competition for these types of writer jobs as well. Following is a brief overview of two.
2 Hot Freelance Writer Jobs in the Internet Marketing Niche
Pay-Per-Click Ad Writers: I landed a major pay-per-click company as a client a little more than a month ago. And, they pay freelance writers who are skilled in writing those little ads a tidy sum for their services.
You see, many companies that run pay-per-click campaigns outsource the writing of the ads and the accompanying landing page (discussed below). When you think about it, it makes sense because the fewer words an ad requires, the more skill it takes to write it.
Another reason this type of writing is so lucrative is that you have to know the nuances of what pay-per-click marketing is all about. It’s not hard to learn; in fact, it’s quite easy. All it takes is some dedicated research on the web. Once you get the hang of it though, you can pitch yourself to clients as a specialist in this area.
Landing Page Writers: A landing page usually accompanies a pay-per-click ad. It is literally the page you “land” on when you click through from a pay-per-click ad.
Landing pages are usually extremely long. But, they can be short as well. They’re usually written in long form though to mimic the television “infomercial.” There are several components to an effective landing page which is why these little suckers require some skill to write.
An astute freelance writer who can research this medium and learn what it’s all about can just about name their price to medium and large-sized firms like ad agencies.
Despite the fact that the above freelance writer jobs require some research, it is all stuff that can be learned really easily. Many freelance writers shy away from stretching their pool of knowledge though. They tend to stick with what they know. But, those who take it upon themselves to learn something newe and position themselves as experts tend to make more money as freelance writers.
When was the last time you expanded your knowledge as a freelance writer? Just something to think about, especially if you’re not satisfied with what you’re making.

I am learning about landing page since one of my clients requires me to write landing pages. However, I find it a bit difficult but I am not giving up yet unless if I failed several times to create the landing page according to my client’s requirements.
Great articles! Thanks for the info! How do you learn SEO writing? I’d like to learn it to add it to my writing skill-set, but I’m unsure the best way to learn how to do it well. Is it better to get a book and teach myself or to take a class? Can you recommend the best training tool you’ve found?
All the best,
Jessica
Interesting post, though the title might be a bit misleading IMO. Noticed one typo here:
When you think about it, it makes sense because the fewer words an ad requires, the more skill it take to write it.

Great Article Yuwanda,
It makes sense since almost every company is online or will be soon.
One question, can you post an average wage or salary one can expect in this field?
I’d like to tell my subscribers about this opportunity.
Thanks!
