Warning: 3 Actions That Will Make Your Readers Call You ‘A Great Blogger’

Posted by on 28th Feb 2009 Blogging 9 comments

There is no better recognition in blogging than being called as ‘a great blogger’ by your blog readers. Do you want to know the top 3 actions that will make your readers call you as a great blogger?

To measure the success you have achieved in blogging, there are many ways like your subscriber count, the number of visits your blog gets per month, the money you earn from your blog, the extra popularity your blog gets every month and being recognized as a ‘great blogger’ or an ‘expert blogger’. No one knows your better in the blogosphere than your blog readers, the ones who read almost every blog post you write.

So how do you get recognition from your blog readers? What should you do to make them see you as a authority blogger? There are many ways to do this but the following (in my experience) are the top 3 actions that you can take that will make your readers call you ‘a great blogger’.

Influence

1. Influence Your Reader’s Life To Your Best

If you can help your reader in any way, do it at the earliest. This is the best way to get recognition from your readers. Even if you can change their life in a small way, you will succeed in becoming a better blogger. Take a notebook and write down the ways in which you can help your blog readers and influence their lives. Try to solve all the problems you have listed down.

If you are a blogger in the ‘make money online’ niche, which is heavily saturated, you have come out of the limits and help your readers. Help your readers in making an extra few hundred dollars per month and you would be seen as a great blogger.

I play football (soccer) and watch football tricks tutorial videos in the internet. For me, everyone who helps me to learn a new trick in football is an expert in playing football. I consider everyone who teaches me something new as a teacher.

Whatever niche you are in, if you influence your reader’s life to your best, you can get huge recognition in the blogosphere.

2. Give Tips That No One Else Gives

There are probably a million good blogs worth reading out there. But what makes your blog stand out and get a top priority to be read? Uniqueness is one of the keys to blogging. In the ‘blogging’ niche, there are so many bloggers that certain things are said over and over by bloggers. Every blogger, including me, tries to give unique tips. If you succeed in giving tips that no one else gives in the blogosphere, you are an authority.

Twitter has started to gain popularity recently. There have been tons of blog posts about twitter. There are also blogs created specially for tips on using twitter. If you were among the first to write about twitter, whatever tips you wrote would have been unique. Now you have to think out of the box to provide unique twitter tips.

If you want to establish yourself in any niche and be seen as an authority blogger by your readers, give tips that no one else gives.

3. Make Your Readers To Take Action

People read a lot of things everyday and forget most of what they read. Your blog is also one of the many things they read and forget. It is said that:

We remember only 20% of what we read

So what is the probability that your blog posts doesn’t come under the 80% of what your readers forget?

Now to make your readers remember what they read in your blog, you have to make your blog post a bit more special. You have to create an impact in your reader’s mind.

Let’s say you have made your readers to remember what they have read in your blog. What is the probability that your readers will take action on it? This also depends on how much impact you create in your reader’s mind. Bigger the impact, better the result will be.

If you can make your readers to take action on what you say and help them move forward in their life, you will surely be considered as a great blogger.

The graphic is perfect for this post. Some bloggers we tend to collapse or interpret the stages in the arc too superficially. Your post makes us think deeper (and maybe see how we are not so great after all, no matter what our relatives say!). We often see attention as influence — publishing a good post with a title that gets your attention; and may see engagement as action — the simple act of pressing 'read more' and submitting a comment. Then we may think we've sufficiently influenced the reader. This type of arc must cover a great time span and be cyclical, built with reader trust.

It's hard to do #1 without knowing what readers need; most don't volunteer that info unless they leave a question in a forum. I've based tutorials on such questions. Even if they make money from your tips, you never know about it. So this one is more about where your heart is and how good a job you think you're doing.

Excellent article. I'll be sure to implement these 3 actions. The one thing which really stuck out for me was that We remember only 20% of what we read. I had no idea. but it does make sense. The question now becomes how can we put our points across in a manner which people will remember. This is the age of information overload.

This post is an excellent example of what you are telling us to do – I can dig it!

The first one on your list should be the most applicable to all of us, and I think this is what beginners are missing. They immediately choose a popular niche, re-write others content, and expect visitors to believe them. They thought that just because they are new, they cannot solve the problems of others.

About being unique, this is the one that will bring out our being resourceful and creative. Yes, it's hard to be unique and I believe no one can push himself to be one. However, one can always think of ways to improve the one that is already existing.

The last one may fall under the category of motivation, or being a great leader. Actually, I even think that the percentage you mentioned is lower than 20% especially if he is reading other similar blogs. Most visitors are lazy to read until the last sentence, which includes me. What I am after for in a blog post is the thrill and curiosity, and hoping that I can analyze if I am doing the right thing.

And yes, your post is among them.

    Thanks for reminding us.

I agree with the 1st point. The best thing you can do is influence your readers life. They will remember you for this influence and continue to look to you for advice.

    sba,

The picture is good and credits to the image owner. It pretty much summarizes the first point and also part of 2nd point. You are partly right about the point 1. It is hard to get to know what your readers want. But as you said, a forum or simply a chat with your reader or twittering would help a lot.

    Rich,

Thanks for the quality comment. You added more value to the post, for every single point. Thanks.

    Others,

    Thanks for commenting.

Now, this is one honest article which hails blogging as an art not just a way to lure the spiders to get the traffic…
