I have never really thought of joining a blog network. The closest thing I have done would be article writing for sites like Hubpages and so on. I would agree that by joining one of these networks you can get a "free ride" on the traffic they bring in. However, i wonder if you publish the articles you write on the blog networks homepage or if the network links to your blog where the article is. Because if you publish all your articles at the blog network then you are completely relying on that network to be up and running. It is also limiting you in a way since a real blog could get a lot more visitors if done right. However, if the network only links to your article on your own blog then this would be a great benefit.
