All you have to do is turn on the news to know that we’re in a recession. And, it’s not just limited to the United States – this is a global recession. For those who make their living online, this is particularly salient because it’s not like if one economy is down, you can just rely on another to keep your profits high.
With all of that being said, following are two recession-proof blog marketing tips to increase your subscriber count – and your blogging income.
Surveys: Surveys are a great way to find out what your customers think, want and need. All you have to do is ask them. And, it doesn’t have to cost a mint. In fact, it doesn’t have to cost anything.
With free options like PollDaddy, you can “create surveys and polls for your website, blog and social network profiles” in minutes. If you ask the right questions in your survey AND act on the information your readers give you, you can increase profits by 5, 10 or 20 percent or more – easily.
Article Marketing: It’s pretty well known that I’m an avid (some would say rabid) fan of article marketing. Beyond writing and distributing articles though, article marketing can help you increase your subscription rate and your income if you conduct some article marketing research to learn which kinds of articles your readers react to.
How to Conduct Article Marketing Research
For example, I have about 200 articles on EzineArticles, almost 700 on Associated Content, and a little more than a hundred or so on several other directories (Amazines, IdeaMarketers, AfroArticles, etc.).
Sometimes, I go back and dig through the statistics that each article directory provides to see what’s popular with readers. Some articles may have 20 or 30 views, while another will have 187 views.
I think it was this past summer when I was doing this type of article marketing research that I discovered that readers really respond to specific article titles, eg, Get $100 Per SEO Article – How to Become a Highly Paid SEO Writer. This article was viewed 315 times and 91 readers clicked on the URL in the resource box. If you know anything about article marketing, you know this is phenomenal!
Another popular article, How to Make $100/Day as a Freelance Writer was viewed 789 times, and 25 clicked on the URL in the resource box. These are still very good stats, which just goes to show how phenomenal the above stats are.
And, this is what I mean by digging through your article stats. They are a veritable gold mine of information – if you actually take the time to: (i) do this type of research; and (ii) use the info you glean from it.
Remember, the number one thing people use the internet for is to find information. These two recession-proof blog marketing techniques allow you to dispense more helpful information to your readers. This in turn will increase your subscriber rate – and your income. And, it doesn’t cost you one red cent.
Now that’s a “cost” that’ll withstand any recession.

That is so true, the utmost priority of a reader is to find useful information online. As a reader as well, I just dig articles essential to my query.
Thanks for the tip. I haven't researched the article market yet but will now that you have suggested it. I enjoy your articles. I will keep following what you have to share.
Yuwanda,
To your point, I think it can helpful to write in your blog like the post is an article. That way after your own blog's version of the article is the Google index, you can reuse it on articles sites, ebooks, etc.
Just be careful not to social bookmark your own posts or make them into articles until Google indexes your own blogs version. I have had cases where the Digg version of the article shows up before the one on my own site. Thats because Digg pages get indexed in like 5 minutes…which was before Google got to my site.
Dan
Gonna try out article marketing.
