Thank you for approaching us and for drawing our attention to the issues you have encountered. Please let me assure you this has been forwarded to our legal department for correction.

We do not want bloggers to license their posts to the public domain. The clarification was meant to explain that as the content now appears on the Internet freely (the public domain), it might get copied by someone else and that will not be the responsibility of BloggersBase<a> (we cannot prevent such copying exactly as the blogger cannot prevent it on his blog or any other site).

As for the sub-licensing, all our bloggers will have a preference to indicate whether they want their content to be sub-licensed or not. Please bear in mind we are still in early beta, hence not all our features are implemented yet, and we're certainly not doing any syndication at the moment.

Once the changes are made, I will update again.

Oren – You found BloggingTips using the search term 'BloggersBase' so I don't agree that you are not trying to knock them down. I have no problem with members being critical about sites we review. infact I encourage it. However, you found BloggingTips by searching for BloggersBase and then emailed me twice to review your site on BloggingTips so it's clear you are trying to knock them down.

Not going to knock BloggersBase down or anything but in my opinion it's not the simplest service to use. Plus the name… BloggersBase, does that sound like a site where mainstream readers would go ?? Not to me it doesn't

BloggersBase's rights in and to the Content include the right to remove Your Content, upon BloggersBase sole Discretion; to use in any way and for any purpose the Content You submit and/or upload to the Website, whether now or hereafter created; and/or to reproduce and distribute the Content for BloggersBase's marketing and publicity purposes."

In short, they are granting themselves an irrevocable license to do whatever they want with the content bloggers submit, including using it for marketing purposes, and even require that bloggers agree to license their works into the public domain.

Honestly, I think that this is most likely a poorly-written TOS or just an outright mistake, but I would still have to urge caution until this gets looked at. This is pretty scary stuff for a lot of bloggers…

There's quite a few websites that offer this kind of service, but most of them fade away quickly or are on the dying legs under heavy criticism.
