Why should you ask these questions to yourself? There is no reason why you should waste time doing what you don’t like. No one wants to put all their hard work on to something and later realize that it is not for them, when they could have easily realized it at first.
Let me also tell you that all the things that are stated below can be learned. No one knows about article marketing when they are born.
Here goes the list of questions and the reason why the questions are asked:
1. Do you have time to write article or have money to buy articles?
As the name says, it is marketing a product or service by writing articles. Obviously you cannot survive in article marketing field when you don’t have time to write articles or enough money to buy articles. What will you submit to article directories when you don’t have any article?
2. Can you do niche research to a certain extent?
You don’t need to be a master in niche research. But you have to know the basics of niche research. You cannot sell a product to in a market which has no interested buyers. You cannot rank for a keyword that has 100,000 searches a day. You also cannot outrank Cars.Com for the keyword ‘cars’. Learn how to do niche research before you start writing articles.
3. Do you have the patience to wait and the eagerness to try?
Article marketing success is not guaranteed for everyone. You might not earn money the first time. But do you have the patience to wait and the eagerness to try? Assume that you have written 10 articles and none of them earned you even a cent. Would you still continue to put efforts in article marketing and learn what you are doing wrong? If you answered ‘no’ for this, article marketing is definitely not for you.
4. Do you have any idea on SEO?
Article marketing involves some SEO to be done before you can rank for ‘3 or 4 words’ search terms. There are many blog posts and other articles that are competing for the same keyword you have chosen. You need to have knowledge on how to optimize your article for getting to the front page of search engines. There are many ebooks on SEO that you can read. You can also read this guide to SEO.
5. Do you know the right article directories to submit?
I know people who do mistake in selecting the article directories to submit their articles. Even if you write a good article for a super hot market, optimizing for a moderately searched keyword term, you might not rank in the search engines if you submit to the wrong directories. Alisa Bowman commented on the blog post that I wrote on how to write articles for article marketing in 12 minutes, asking for the best services to submit your articles to (the comment was also very good). I researched and found a blog post that listed 460 article directories (till now) according to the quality. It should be very helpful to you. My favorite article directory is Ezine Articles.
Did you answer ‘no’ to any of these questions? If you did, will you be trying to learn the ones that you said ‘no’ to? Please share your opinion in the comments.

Fortunately I answered yes to all these questions because I have been doing article marketing for about 3 years now and I understand the basic logistics that it takes to be effective at article marketing
Interesting, I did not know about that entire SEO thing. From your experience is it worth to submit a site to paid directories like yahoo?
Donny, Congrats on your article marketing success.
Manuel, I have never submitted any of my blog or site to yahoo directory. But I still receive good search engine traffic. Though I’m not sure if adding my blog to yahoo directory will improve anything.
didnt answer no to any of them, and i liked the part about research because thats what i did and some of my articles rank for the keywords i wanted them to and in a very good position aswell
