Do You Think MyBlogLog Has Went Downhill Since Yahoo Took It Over?

MyBlogLogWhen I started blogging regularly I was a big fan of MyBlogLog, the social community for bloggers. I stopped using it around the time Yahoo took control over the site and removed the widget from my blogs. Many other blogs removed the widget as well though the community is still very popular.

However it seems that many members believe that MyBlogLog has went downhill a little since being taken over by internet giants Yahoo. Angel Djambazov wrote an article on ReveNews last week entitled ‘MyBlogLog Needs to Wake Up Their Porn Problem‘, Angel Wrote :

I am not a prude by any means. Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl “malfunction” did not shock me. However, the porn photos masquerading as profile pictures for porn spammers that Yahoo allows into MyBlogLog I do find irritating.

The thing is I have to admire their ingenuity. Yahoo states quite clearly that “spam” in their opinion is solely tied to email messaging. It is not tied to profile pictures. So what does a smart spammer do? Create a robot that while active in MBL visits several hundred blogs. Thus their promotional picture shows up on the MBL widget for that community as a “reader”.

Now it would be a different matter if the site was listed as being open to adult content. However this problem occurs on sites, like here at Revenews, which are not listed as open to adult content.

I was unaware of this problem myself but it doesn’t surprise me that support has dropped since being taken over by Yahoo. I migrated my FeedBurner account to Google last year and stats are still sometimes messed up.

It just goes to show that a company with a huge bankroll and brand is not always going to develop a service better than the original developers, who had a genuine drive to make the service a success.

I recently added Google’s new service Friend Connect to Blogging Tips but apart from that, I haven’t used a blogging social site for quite a while. Therefore I’m unable to give my own opinion on this.

Do any of you still use MyBlogLog? Do you think the service has improved or got worst since Yahoo took it over last year?

:)

Registered at mybloglog when I started blog but never used it much and didn't use widget (only tracking code).

As usual I am not much into social networks so other might see more value in it than I do. :)

I am not anymore using MyBlogLog. Seems that BlogCatalog is more enjoyable and fun.

I can't say I've ever noticed it being particularly useful. Maybe not as spammy as it is now, but I've never gotten much in the way of traffic from it. I suppose some could say it provides a good place to find other blogs. Beyond that I'm hard pressed to give very many good points about it.

I removed their previous widget which was causing my site to load slower, but I still have the new widget, but not as prominient. I keep it to track adsense clicks ;)

But I believe that MBL will have a good role to play in Yahoo! 's Inboz 2.0 vision.

I used to use mybloglog a bit, but haven't really in a while. I did hear Yahoo took over, but I was never really that much a fan of it in the first place…

I never understood why this was popular in the first place.

    Heya!

My name is Tilly, and I'm the community manager here at MyBlogLog! Nice to meet you :)

It just breaks my heart to read that you are not as happy with our service lately. I will be the first to admit that we hit a few a few bumps along the way while joining the Yahoo family, and we apologize that the transition wasn't as smooth as it should have been for some of our members. I promise that we will make it up to everyone :)

Stick around though, we got all sorts of hotness planned in the next couple months, so stay tuned! And of course, if you need anything at all, drop me a line anytime (www.mybloglog.com/support) I'm always here to help :D

    XOXO

    Tilly

MyBloglog was the first social site that I join and that was mid of last year. I used to have their widgets on my blogs. But I do not know when Yahoo took control over them.

Anyway, I met fellow bloggers who eventually became my virtual friends. However, I noticed that besides tons of messages pouring on my Inbox, I find it hard to look for bloggers with the same niche.

Unlike BC where I can even start a thread, and blogs are neatly arranged according to category. I am a member of MB but not active anymore.

I switched from the widget to the text link merely as a "space" issue; plus I get a lot more followers having the link above the fold.

As for my use of it, I was an AVID user before Yahoo took over. Now, with all their "cool new features" I can't find anything! Navigation (for me at least) is extremely confusing.

For instance, I still can't find anyone (including MBL support) to simplify how to "broadcast" to my community.

And don't even get me started on pages and pages of followers RSS feeds, which I do not want or need!

This is a good review and the response from the author is so positive that I am left breathless. Thank you.

Mybloglog was the first community that I joined sometime last October and it's already being run by Yahoo. I had no basis of comparison then until I joined Blogcatalog. I find blogcatalog a lot better because they make member interaction easier leading to a tremendous amount of actvity.

I'm exploring Google Friend connect now.

WOW what a fantastic Article! This is what lots of us have been doing for years, whether there’s been an economic crisis or not!

My blog log was one of the first online communities I joined when I started blogging all most a year ago. It has never really slowed down for me… I find that new visitors come by and add me to their contact list daily. I've never really had any complaints about or problems with MyBlogLog. :)

Yeah, I think it has lost its appeal and popularity. I have stopped using it for all my blogs for some time now. Initially I use it to get traffic and interact with them.

I joined when it was new and fresh, but never really got into it to begin with. I didn't really associate its downhill slide with Yahoo, but it makes sense. Coupled with it just being another internet site with huge possibility of failing, it doesn't surprise me that it didn't really keep its momentum.

I think all such sites have a life span. They reach their Zenith in terms of popularity and then slowly begin to decline once something new and better shows up.

Blogs can be popular when its content can caught anyones attention. Trying writing an article that is updated and connected to our daily lives.
