50 Niches You Could Be Blogging About

I mentioned in a post last month that the one thing which I actively see new bloggers struggle with is the main focus of their blog. I gave one example of a blog (sports blog) but Mike Smith has went one better.

Infact, Mike has went 49 better and wrote a post with 50 Passion filled blog niches YOU should be dominating. If you are thinking about starting a new blog soon but you’re not sure about what to blog about then you should find this list incredibly handy.

    Hey Kevin,

Thanks for reposting this for your readers. I hope they all enjoy it :)

  2. I think bloggers should be in to what they blog about. Publishing blogs just for traffic won’t do much good in the long run when you start getting bored of something you know little about plus your comments will not be of interest to your site visitors unless you have a good understanding of what you talk about. Better to pick an area of interest and enjoy posting blogs about something you love.

  3. Riyanne says:

I always wanted to try site flipping for some time now but I have no idea what to blog about. Thanks to this list, you gave me a lot of ideas!

  4. Lindsay says:

Well, I think if you’re choosing to blog for passion, you already *know* what you’re passionate about. Where I see people struggling to find a niche is when they’re looking for something profitable. ;)

While it is possible to be passionate about something profitable, the two don’t always go hand in hand, so it pays to research the industry before jumping in.

  5. To that list I would add blogging about books which can be further divided into kidlit, young adult, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, christian fiction, or all!

It’s amazing to see how specialized bloggers can be and yet not run out of anything to say!

  6. Great list. But blogging is not only about passion. You could get a team of writers and grow a hyper-successful blog on a topic you’re not passionate about at all!

What do you think about this?

  7. Wish I could take credit for it but it was Mike Smith who wrote the list :)

Codrut – Yes if you have a team of writers of the money to hire writers then you can write about pretty much any subject they have experience with.

  8. Hitesh Mehta says:

Blogging is about passion and profits, thr are many ppl who are passionate abt jus expressing it by way of blogging and thr are many who knowz how to make this passion profitable, so it works both ways.

This list is great and it may not require too much of research to start a niche blog, this list can jus spark an interesting idea to one or many to get in to a new space of blogging.

  9. Some of those niches on the list are very overplayed. There are simply too many blogs in some of those niches…

    -Mike

  10. aeirin says:

I’m planning to make a new blog but I was really confused what will be my niche. Good thing I saw your blog, and I got an idea what will be the niche for my new blog.. Thanks Kevin and Mike

  11. I agree with the principle that you should only write about what you are interested in/passionate about. I started my blog as a way of providing cutsomer to my main site with more information than a commercial site could offer. However it has expanded, allowing me to rant about various related subjects. My trouble now is now to take it BEYOND what I know while still remaining vaguely authoritative and interesting.

  12. Gofree says:

50? It seems to cover all niches being blogged, I guess. Anyway, thanks a lot.

  13. Mike Smith says:

I’m glad that everyone liked the list.

@Codrut – yeah, that is definitely a possibility. I know a guy who runs a couple blogs that he knows ZERO about but he gave some people on forums that love the subject a chance to become “published bloggers” by utilizing the “about the author” boxes on some wordpress themes and now they’re happy to write for free, just so they can tell people “hey, I blog at ______” It works well for him, I’m sure it could transfer to other niches as well.

@Mike – They also say that adult websites are overpopulated and you can’t make money in them, but I can promise you that is 100% not true. No niche is too overpopulated. That’d be like saying video game sites are overpopulated, or celebrity news sites are overpopulated. That’s something that will never happen :)

    @aeirin – you’re very welcome :)
