I have been using the Search Engine Optimisation script Ranksense all day to see why everyone has been raving about it. Developed by Hamlet Batista, Ranksense is a feature full keyword and website optimiser which will tell you what is bringing you the most traffic, where you rank in the search engines and what keywords you should be targeting. It’s a great script and lucky for all of you, you can currently download a 90 day free trial to test it out. After that you need to pay a monthly subscription (pricing starts from $25 a month for 2 websites).
Using Ranksense
After installing it you are presented with the intro screen. Here you can view a features tour, take a tutorial or get right into it and submit a website. Adding a website is very straightforward. The script can connect to your wordpress or blogger blog and can also connect to some stats packages like analytics. This helps the script later when optimising your site and checking your traffic etc.
Once you’ve added your blog you are presented with a huge amount of options. The first thing I would do is check where you rank in the major search engines. Then I would look at the traffic that each keyword is bringing you. From these two tools you should be able to see a very good picture of how you rank and why you are ranking there.
Each tool goes into a ridiculous amount of detail. For example, by integrating with analytics you can bring up some great stats and graphs. The graph below highlights how much Google makes up my search engine traffic.
The screenshot below shows you the main tools available to you with the script. As you can see, there’s a lot of tools to help you analyse your blog.
Summary
On the surface the script seems like a lot of other SEO scripts but nearly every tool goes into so much more detail. If you’re blog is fairly new I wouldn’t recommend getting this as I’m not sure you would get much out of it as you won’t have much of a presence yet in the search engines. However, if you have an established blog (or website) you will get a lot from this script. Most importantly, you can see what keywords are bringing you the most traffic ie. perhaps you should do more posts on that subject.
If you fancy trying it out please sign up at the site and try out the 90 day trial (they include you in a newsletter but you can unsubscribe if you want from the first email they send you so don’t let that put you off).

I’m just wondering if you like it more than google analytics, or is it basically the same thing ? I also read somewhere that Yahoo has an analytics in beta now or something, not quite sure.

Kevin,
Hope you’ll do a follow-up after a month or so to tell of your experiences. Like has it helped you to make changes to increase your traffic, or helped you to write more keyword rich content. If it doesn’t, what tools what you recommend instead?

Hey Kevin,
Nice review, I think Ranksense is a good SEO product with a lot of potential for webmasters just getting started with optimization. I’m holding a big contest with Ranksense at Winning the Web here: http://www.winningtheweb.com/ranksense-seo-launch-contest.php
You may have heard about it already, but you have a pretty good chance of winning big.

Sorry for the very late reply to this. I must have missed the update email.
Can’t believe I’m 3rd in the contest!
