Tired of writing good posts only to see you have 5-10% of clicks from your feed readers? Want to increase it by many times and get around 63% of your feed readers to click and read your blog in your blog and take some action?

In the last post, I explained some of the things you could do to convert the free traffic into precious readers. If you follow them, you can easily get a good increase in the number of subscribers. Even if you are new to blogging, you must be having a few subscribers. Every time you write a post, you want your feed readers to come and check out the blog post. In some cases, the blog post goes unnoticed and in many cases, the ones who check the post in the feed don’t come to see your blog.

To make your readers to click the post in the feed and take some action when they come to your blog, you can do specific things like below.

1. Headline
The head line is the first thing every feed reader reads. If you cannot capture their mind with the headline, you cannot make them to read the blog post. The headline should be intriguing. The headlines that works best include how to, list post and a few more. You can check out this article on copyblogger to know how to write creative and attractive headlines. Once you master the art of writing a headline, you can get huge conversion rates.

2. Great Opening
You have heard it many times from famous bloggers that your post should have a great opening. This is 200% true. If you don’t inspire your feed readers in the opening few lines, you cannot expect them to read your post completely. You have got only a few seconds to satisfy the reader to read the blog post. Within this limited time you need to please your readers. You can ask a question or you can present some interesting facts at the start of the post. If you came to read this post by through feed reader, it means you liked my opening to some extent.

3. A Picture
It is rightly said that a picture is worth thousand words. A picture can do wonders. A good picture at the start of the post or in the middle can draw people to your blog post. When a good picture can get stumbles for your post, it can surely get the attention too. If you are a newbie to adding good photos, I recommend you to check the article written by Skellie.

4. Good Content
It is said over and over by many bloggers everyday. Content is really the king. If you don’t have anything valuable to offer, I’m not reading your post. Not only me, almost everyone in the blogosphere. But you deserve a lot more than reading, if your content is extraordinary. I always read the posts and give stumbles and votes on other social media sites if the post it really good.

5. Ask For Feedback
At the end of the post, ask a question. Invite your readers to participate in your blog. Never end a post abruptly. I have seen blog posts that have top notch content but a poor ending and as a result it gets very few comments. You need to ask feedback about the post. Give your readers the comfort to share their opinion. If you have seen my blog posts or if you are a regular reader of my posts in this blog, you might have noticed that I always ask for a feedback at the end of the post. This is, in my opinion, a must have for a blog post.

Do you get good conversion rates for your blog posts from your feed readers? Have you tried the above things before? If yes, did you see good results? What other things do you think will improve the conversion rates? Please share it in the comments.

Now you have me as a new subscriber… No not yet. :)

It would be a good turn if you would explain the advantages of Feeds, because I never seem to need them at all. I mean I check out the page and if something is new my eye catches it automaticaly.

I tried it once but got flooeded with all the rss feeds , so I gave it up acctualy :)

With the RSS feeds, instead of having to go to a website over and over, you can just keep your feed reader open and be instantly alerted to new content on your favorite sites.

Sometimes sites update infrequently. It’s nice to be able to keep an eye on things.

Knowing what to do is the easy part, for instance I know that the things you point out are important (although I do often forget to ask for feedback), but the hard part is learning how to write a compelling headline, or a great opening. The devil’s in the details as they say.

What do you use for tracking the conversion rates on your feed? Are you using Feedburner?

Donna Miller, Indeed writing compelling headlines is tough. But if you read some article about writing headlines and practice writing it, you will surely improve a lot. Everything comes by practice. You can read the copyblogger post which I have linked to. It is a great tutorial for writing good headlines.

Regarding the tracking, I use Feedburner and also WP-Stats. WP-Stats sometimes doesn’t show the actual numbers of people who have come from feed.
