UBD Release Citrus Theme in 6 Colors

Yesterday Unique Blog Designs announced the release of their new Citrus Theme. The Citrus Theme is a premium theme which comes in 6 colors and is incredibly easy to modify to suit your needs. The theme costs $79 for a single domain license, $99 for a mutli domain license and $149 for a developer package, which comes with the original psd files.

Nate Whitehill was nice enough to send me a copy of the new theme so that I can try it out. My friend recently asked me to design a blog for his football team so I spent last night modifying the Citrus Theme to suit his teams colors and requirements.

Before I proceed, I encourage you to check out one of the demos of the design to get an idea of what this theme can offer.

Demos :

After uploading the theme I had a quick look at what it had to offer and I was very pleased with it. The theme is right up to date and is widget friendly. It also has gravatar support and the UBD 125 ad rotation script built in too.

After uploading the theme to my friends blog I noticed that some of his posts were being duplicated on the home page. Posts were being displayed at the top left hand side and at the top of the right sidebar. It was only when I looked at the Citrus Theme Options page that I realised what was wrong. The theme allows you to set a featured category and a news category. So for my friends blog I set ‘Club News’ to be the featured category and ‘Team Results’ to be the news category. This means that at the top of ever blog post the latest ‘Club News’ will be displayed and on the home page all the ‘Latest Results’ are displayed down the right hand side. It’s perfect for what I need for my friends team blog.

Thankfully, you also have the option to just display your front page as a traditional blog page and all you need to do is select news or blog as your frontpage type on the options page.

As you can see from the screenprint below, the options page allows you to easily modify several important aspects of your blog at the touch of the button. As well as changing how the front page is displayed, you can also choose what color scheme your blog has here too. From this options page you can also set your advertise and archives page URL, determine whether your logo is text or an image, set your featured and news categories, add advertising and switch trackbacks on and off. You can also add your Google Analytics code here so that stats are tracked.

Once you have all of these things you will probably not use the options page that much however it really does make setting your blog up the way you want very easy from the word go.

To help with setting the theme up, UBD has also made some video tutorials which explains the options and walks you through how you set the theme up to suit your needs. This is in addition to their Support Forum where they respond to customers queries regarding their themes.

I know that I was lucky enough to get a copy of this theme sent to me for free however if I had not I would not hesitiate to purchase this theme. It’s a beautiful, clean and professional looking theme which is very easy to modify to suit your blogs needs. I’ve had a look at the main stylesheet and the color specific one and can confirm that the code is very easy to read and edit ie. there’s no redundant code and everything is commented well so you can find the code you need change very quickly.

If you want to read more, please visit the Citrus Theme homepage. Also, if anyone is interested in this theme and has a specific question regarding it please leave a comment and I’ll do my best to answer it. :)

The setup page is very nice, for anyone who’s too lazy to code ( me ). But the part that gets me is the comments. If I’m paying for a theme, I want nicer looking comments. If UBD can do something to spruce that up, then I think they have a winner.
