Kevin MuldoonMonetize Your Twitter Background

Twittad is the latest venture which is looking to monetize Twitter accounts.

The premise of Twittad is similar to AdComo. You first need to set the price and duraton of an ad in your account (most seem to be selling on a per week per month basis). Once set up your ad listing shows the price to advertise on your account and the number of followers you have. It also shows how many people you are following. Since users set the price themselves I expect a market average price will appear once more people take this up.

Once you have sold an ad you upload the advertisers background image to your Twitter account. Twittad tracks the impressions of the image and makes sure that the image is being displayed however since the ad is only being displayed in the background no click throughs will be generated ie. this type of advertising allows you to advertise your brand however users cannot click on your image. Due to this I assume that most advertisers will place a URL in their background image.

It’s an interesting idea but I’m not sure how successful it will be. Would you be willing to sell advertising on your Twitter account?

    Hi, Kevin:

I would monetize my Twitter background page, if the ad is relevant, tasteful, and pays well.

Sure would. This is America, where capitalism rules. Long live entrepreneurs.
