I am adding a new weekly feature to Blogging Tips called Reader Blog Critique.

The idea is simple : every week I will post the URL of a blog with a brief description about it and a few sentences from the blog owner about what they believe needs to be improved. BloggingTips readers will then leave a comment giving feedback on the blogs design and content with some suggestions as to how to market the blog too. The most helpful and constructive commenter will win a prize.

I spoke to Dan Grossman recently and he was kind enough to send me a copy of his his new WordPress plugin WPReview. WPReview is a commercial product which lets you add ratings to your posts and pages, effectively making your blog a review site. It currently retails for $97 ($199 for a multi site license).

I started my blog on November 7th 2007 after I had spent a lot of time thinking of a brandable name. I had finally decided to go with “Mixed Market Arts,” which was a play-on-words of Mixed Martial Arts, a popular sport in which fighters use a mixture of different types of martial arts. I wanted my marketing blog to share a mixture of internet marketing techniques, thus Mixed MARKET Arts.

In theory, it sounded like a hugely brandable name. In reality, the branding backfired.

PureBlogging Up For Sale

The popular blogging advice blog PureBlogging is now up for sale at SitePoint. This probably won’t surprise anyone who knew of the site has the owner David Culpepper has contributed less and less in the last few months. However this does continue the tradition of these kind of blogs being sold within a year or so of starting.

In the past these blogs have sold for a good price so best of luck to David and here’s hoping the blog sells…

Google’s Blogger platform offers users complete access to their template code. This enables Blogger users to customize their template in any way they choose, by changing the layout, design or adding extra functionality which is lacking in the default templates.
