When you have groups of people who stumble each others stuff the general SU community begins to take notice. One of the groups that takes notice is a bunch of "vigilantes" for lack of a better terms who begin to harass you and start reporting the stumbles back and forth between yourself and your friends. When SU investigates they see the stumbles clearly aren't natural and they start to ban you and your "friends". That's not to say it can't work, but you have to be really careful not to overdo it.
