Kevin MuldoonFireFox Breaks World Download Record

Written by Kevin Muldoon from System0 on July 3, 2008

It looks like FireFox’s campaign to get the most software downloads in 24 hours has worked. They now have an announcement on their website saying :

Thanks to the support of the always amazing Mozilla community, we now hold a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. From 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008, 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3 and are now enjoying a safer, smarter and better Web.

I can only imagine their servers were under to cope with 8 million downloads in one day. Check out their world map which shows you which countries were downloading FireFox on that day. You might be surprised by the download figures for some countries :)

Well not exactly… they hold the record because they created the record and they were the first to do it. They didn’t break the record, they created it and are the current holders.

Oh you’re just being petty haha ;) Regardless, it’s still an impressive record and shows how much a marketing campaign like this can really promote your business.

I’d love to celebrate this success but a lot of my clients are NOT happy with how unstable FF3 is turning out to be. Me either for that matter.

Woot! FF3 for the win. I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve heard complaints and such, but so far it’s been smooth sailing for me. Apart from one of my Linux machines refusing to play flash in FF3. I’ll have to look into that.

    Congrad’s to Mozilla!

Wow, and now they are sitting on29 million downloads! Does Mozilla make a profit from this somehow? Cause those servers would be expensive

Firefox is one of the best web browsers in the world. So I think firefox is proper to get this record. There are some reasons why most of people like to use firefox, for example : secure, free, etc.
