I recently removed the Skribit suggestion widget from BloggingTips. It was a useful tool however I didn’t like how I could not contact those who made post suggestions to explain why a post could not be covered. In future, post suggestions should be in the Suggestions & Feedback Room.
John Sullivan asked a few questions today. I will answer some of those questions first before I proceed to the main point of this post
Quick Questions & Answers
I was hoping to do a little power move and snatched up a PR4 site today and I installed wordpress, hook up some links, and now what?
My question is what would you do exactly with http://emac2006.org
It has a history and a kind of weird one from a legit european marketing whatever and has a lot of links for that .Then I was on there and saw that search live is sending traffic so I checked back and it was for dating.Should I do a redirect.Abandon ship and stop trying to be slick
Congrats on picking up a domain with a PageRank of 4. What would I do with it? Well, I wouldn’t develop it as the domain name is really bad and refers to a year which has already passed. On it’s own the domain would be worthless but with the PR 4 attached it could make you some money. I would personally build a minisite with it. Add at least a dozen or so pages on some random subject and then sell text links through a site like Text Link Ads. You could be able to make up to $100 a month using this method.
Like when you bought bloggingtips was there PR and did it stay or go ?
I don’t believe the original BloggingTips.org domain I had was ever used before. The BloggingTips.com domain was parked before I managed to aquire it so it did not have a PageRank either.
Stop looking for the quick fix
There was one comment in John’s post that inspired me to write this article. He said :
I’m really TIRED of signing up for everything.
I’d like to post three times a week and be poolside the rest
Anyone with this attitude is not going to make money through the web. Unfortunately, I have seen a lot of new bloggers make statements like this. It seems that many young bloggers are under the illusion that you can work 5 hours a week and become a millionaire. You can’t. There is no quick and easy way to make a lot of money on the internet, if there was we would all be doing it. There are people who make money through the internet and only work 10-15 hours a week however they only got to that position through years of hard work.
You simply cannot throw up a blog, plaster it with ads and expect to make money from it. It doesn’t work like that. You need to create quality unique content for your blog and you need to do this on a weekly basis. Bottom line, you need to give people a reason to visit your blog. Remember, there are millions of blogs being created every year. Ask yourself, is your blog standing out from the crowd?

Really like what you said about the quick fix. I really believe some people have the wrong expectations when getting into blogging or other online businesses. To succeed, you must be ready for the long haul.
There are a lot of things people say they want, but never do what it takes to achieve it. Lose weight, get fit, become a martial arts master… whatever. If you want to succeed at ANYTHING, you must become almost obsessed with it and make it priority number one. No benefits without work.

I really like your comments Edward. That is the same thing I know. If we want something, then we should do whatever it takes to achieved it.

isn’t it amazing how people expect so much for giving so little. i am more intrigued by the opposite. people who do much for others while expecting little in return. why can’t more people be like that??
