Today marks the first day of a long weekend for me. You see, this weekend I plan on fully optimizing all of my blog themes, cleaning up the code and adding in the final needed plugins to make them as search engine friendly as possible.
I started working on this earlier, and during a coffee break I got the itch to hunt around for a few themes that were already well optimized. The following is a list of what I found.
First two up to bat are Bitter Sweet and Shades of Gray. These two Wordpress Themes have been modified by SEO Zombie for search engine friendliness.
The two templates have been modified to include the following.
* Unique H1 for each page
* Sub Headings and Titles are H2
* Navigation uses H3
* Clean code, xhtml/css, no tables
* Content first in the HTML, with the navigation HTML coming last
* Keyword anchor in footer
You can check out screenshots and grab the zip files for these two themes here.
CopyBlogger
Running the Copyblogger theme automatically puts your Wordpress blog on SEO steroids. The css and code are written almost explicitly to be friendly with visiting search engines, and very few, if any tweaks will need to be made for SEO purposes.

SEO Streamliner
This theme contains modifications of the title and header tags that make it extremely search engine friendly. It also includes a simplified blank header that is fully ready for your custom text and images. Last but not least, the theme includes a custom tags page that works with WP tags.
This theme also has a dark color scheme, which is fairly different from most other out-of-the-box SEO Wordpress themes.

SEO Simple
If you’re on the hunt for a stripped down, text rich and SEO delicious “sandbox” style theme, SEO Simple could be the ticket. The css is written so that the title tag and post content displays immediately after the HTML body tag. This way your best text content is right at the front door waiting to say hello to Google.

Do you know of any good free SEO Wordpress themes? Post a link in the comments and I’ll add them in to the post.

I have been frequently coming to bloggingtips while googling for different blog related things. Now I have bookmarked it, to save me further search. The blogs that you have updated are nice but can you do that in 3 columns too? I have a very nice zoxengen theme blog, but it goes haywire in IE. I haven’t found a soultion for it yet.

You can do all that and even more to your website/content, if you forget the linkbuilding process, you’ll never get in top10 at google. Submit your content to relevant directories, like yahoo, cost 300$, dmoz.org, free, but take up to 1 year.
Look for other directories to submit to.

For the record… I wasn’t going for design at all with these themes. Simply choosing the ones with the cleanest and SEO friendliest code out of the box. Obviously there would be a lot of design work involved.

Thanks so much for going through and optimizing your themes! I have used Court’s SEO optimized themes, but not all of them work too great for business looking sites. I love your themes, but have shied away because of the lack of the total seo optimization (and my laziness to fix them).
