I have said time and time again that the hardest period in a blogs life is the first few months. This is the time when you need to write lots of great posts and promote your blog extensively too. A sad reality is that many great posts which are wrote near the start of a blogs life will not be read by many people. Thankfully, the more popular your blog becomes the easier it is run to the blog in many ways.
First with the news
Have you ever wondered why the most popular blogs always seem to be the ones who break the big news stories. Frustrating isn’t it! There are a few reasons why they are able to do this time and time again and why smaller blogs will find it difficult to compete with newsbreaking. First of all, many top blogs have a team of full time staff working for them. Not only do these staff members write posts, they also spend a lot of time reading other news sites to make sure they cover all the main stories.
Secondly, the reason popular blogs are first with a lot of news is because the news comes to them. Companies which are launching new websites or products need to let their audience know about the launch so what they do is contact the most popular websites in their niche and tell them about the product launch. It makes perfect sense when you think about it. If you worked as an internet marketer for a new mobile phone company you would obviously contact top blogs like Endgadget and Gizmodo as they have hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Put simply, internet companies contact the largest blog and news sites about an announcement as they know they will get the exposure they want.
Lastly, top blogs get the head start on most news stories because of their readers. Many blog readers contact the owner about new stories they read about and the more readers your blog has, the more emails you are likely to get from readers telling you about the latest stories.
Being the first to break the news on a story is a big deal as you can expect a lot of incoming links from it if the story becomes popular. If your blog is still new then it’s highly unlikely you will be the first to break the news on an event so my advice is to blog about it and give your own opinion on it.
Less time spent looking for post ideas
The more popular your blog becomes the less time you have to spend looking for post ideas. Writers block is something that can affect anyone however it is usually down to not staying up to date with the latest news about your chosen topic.
As I mentioned before, the more popular your blog becomes the more emails you will get from readers and companies. This can save you a lot of time researching for post ideas and will make running your blog more efficient in many respects.
Another great source for post ideas is pingbacks. When your blog gets more and more popular you will see other blogs and websites linking to your homepage and to your posts. Pingbacks are great for two reasons. First of all, they can be a great resource for post ideas. If you take the time to read all the blogs which are linking to you I’m sure you will come across posts which will inspire you to write your opnion on the subject. Secondly, more incoming links means more traffic and as I have shown so far, the more traffic your blog gets the easier many aspects of blogging becomes.
More Money, More Options
Once you get more traffic and more subscribers you will find it easier to monetarize your blog. This will open a lot of doors for you and will give you more freedom with how you develop and promote your blog.
More money will allow you to do many things including :
All of the above should help you gain more subscribers and if you are paying for them your normal blogging routine will not be disrupted much. This is an important thing to realise. Developing a new design for your blog and promoting your blog via free methods like commentating and social media can be very time consuming so outsourcing these tasks can help you concentrate on writing on your writing duties.
Overview
There is no denying that blog owners of popular blogs work hard and spend a lot of time running their site. However, in my opinion many of the frustrating elements of blogging go away when your blog is popular and your overall blogging experience is much more rewarding. You get more comments, more feedback and probably more money too.
Blogging can be a thankless task at the beginning but if you perservere and work hard at it I’m sure your blog will grow and many of the things you found difficult will get easier.
Good luck
