I came across a cool little widget on ProBlogger recently which lets your blog visitors leave suggestions for post topics.
The service is called Skribit and they give you a widget to put onto your blog. This widget works in real time and allows your visitors to leave a message to tell you what they would like covered on your blog. Users can then vote on the suggegstions which have posted. It’s a simple idea but as usual, simple ideas are the ones which work the best.
Here’s an example of what the widget looks like :
I have added the widget to the sidebar on post pages to see if readers take to it. They let you customize the widget so it’s fairly easy to blend it in with your blog’s theme. However, I would like a horizontal widget instead of a vertical one as I think something like this would get a better response underneath blog posts rather than the sidebar.
I recommend adding it to your blog for a week or so to see if your readers take to it. In my opinion it’s win win as readers are able see the topics they want covered on your blog and you have a ready supply of topics to write about (ie. no more writing block!).
