I am proud to announce that BloggingTips has a new blog design :)

Design Info

Our previous design was based on Brian Gardner’s Revolution Theme. I liked the design however I thought it was about time the site got a new design to help distinguish it from the rest of the pack.

Our new theme was designed by Design Saurus and incorporates our original logo from David Airey. The theme features :

  • Less clutter in the sidebar
  • Gravatar support
  • Author automatically highlighted in comment area (for many authors)
  • Multi tab which shows latest posts, categories, archives and recent comments
  • Excerpts on home page

I hope you all like the new theme and if you have any suggestions, please let me know. Myself and Oliver from Design Saurus have checked the theme for bugs over the last few days but if you find anything wrong please let me know (Note : IE6 support will be added tomorrow).

More News : Marketplace and Directory removed

I gave some site updates last week however I forgot to mention the removal of the marketplace and the directory a few weeks ago. The marketplace was not very popular so removing it was a no brainer however the blogging directory was quite popular. Unfortunately, it was popular with the wrong kind of people, spammers! There were some good blog submissions however most were blogs that were less than a week with no content and some were even scraping blogs which stole content from other blogs.

Share the love

To coincide with our new blog design we will be releasing a dynamic wordpress theme to the public within the next few hours. I’m sure you will all like it :)

Last but not least, a huge thank you to Rajat, Oliver and the rest of the team at Design Saurus for the work they have put in the last few weeks with this design.

I like the new design… but the "continue reading" link isn't very clear. It's located in the place where social bookmarking buttons and stuff like that… which are usually ignored.

I would put it in the end of the text like a regular link.

we looked at that area a lot. We decided to make it grey so that it was seperate from the main post area. We originally had the continue reading link above the postmeta area but with that we effectively had two lines of info after the content – eg a level with the continue reading and a level with the filed under. Of course, we could just use a standard continue reading text link but I quite like the image and think it makes it look more professional :)

Sterling work, Kevin. I think this is definitely a step up.

When leaving this comment, I found the text fields difficult to spot. One suggestion might be to darken the box outlines ever so slightly. Regardless, great improvement.

I also love your new design. It looks uncluttered and the colors are great, easy on the eye. The addition of us writers in the footer is a really neat way to showcase contributors too.

I second David's comment about the text box outline. If it wasn't for the smileys it would be even harder to see.

    Thanks Guys,

I've changed the border round the input boxes to match the grey on the borders of the site. I also placed a grey border round the comment area – what do you think?

I love the new design. The old one is a bit too bright/white for me.

    I agree with comment#1
