If you are saying things like “Oh yeah! I need a hundred more twitter followers by this week.” Or something similar, you must really work towards it. Twitter, though it is addicting, is a very good tool to increase your fame and your blog’s fame. Every time you send a twitter update, at least 1/5th of your fans are going to see and also your fan’s fans will see your name. Say, if you have 100 fans, your updates will be seen by at least 100 people even though not all your fans online. That’s great isn’t it? After all who wouldn’t love free publicity? So here are a few tips for you to get around 50+ fans, if not, hundreds by this week. And when I say by this week, it means starting from Monday to Sunday and not before the end of this Sunday. If I knew how to do that, I would be one of the many big twitter users.

1. Twitter More
The secret to success in any field is trying it more and staying with that for a long time. You cannot become a hero in blogging with a few days of hard work. Twitter is also something like that. Unless you are SOMEONE in the internet, NO ONE will know you and add you as a friend in twitter. So use twitter more. Send many updates. Don’t send a link of your blog or a link to you blog post in every update as this will lead to people seeing you as a spammer, even though you are not.

2. Reply To Others’ Updates
There will be many people posting their updates and you can easily to reply to it. Doing this will help you in building good relationship with the other end person. If the person to whom you are replying is famous in the internet, many people will see your reply and will add you as a friend. Even if the person at the other end is just an Average Joe, you can end up getting a couple of extra friends.

3. Always Link To Your Twitter Profile
Whenever you write an article in your blog or guest blog for other blogs, mention your twitter profile. This will help you getting a few twitter followers in a short time. When you give a link to your twitter profile in your blog posts, you can get much more followers. What if your blog post gets stumbled by many or reaches the digg front page? Will it not send a huge stream of twitter users to your profile?

4. Use Forums
You might already be using forums, if not, join the forums in the niche that you have interest in and start posting in the forum. If you spend most of your time at the DP forums, a link to your twitter profile in the signature, can get you a lot of followers quickly. If someone asks the forum users to submit their twitter profile link, be the first to submit it because this kind of forum thread always become popular and everyone who posts next to you will see your profile link and will end up adding you. You can also start your own thread asking twitter profile links and give yours in that. But make sure there is no other such topic in the forum before creating one.

5. Email Signatures
Everyday you maybe sending a lot emails and replying to lots more than that. Why not get something done from the mails you send? Add a signature to your emails with a link to your twitter profile. Every mail you send will influence the number of followers you get.

What methods do you use to increase twitter followers? Have you tried any of these methods?

I've recently gotten onto Twitter, and it's interesting. I've gotten a few hits from my twitters, and since I wanted my blog readers to check it out, I offered a twitter 'exclusive' for at least a week. (Since I'm a craft blog, this was a picture of some truly hideous yarn that I picked up.)

I'm not certain if I will integrate Twitter into my blog via button or anything yet. I'm following copyblogger, and he's already inspired what, 2 blog posts in reaction to the sayings that he posts very regularly. So, obviously, there are good ways to use Twitter and boring ways of using Twitter.

I've never had a goal to get as many followers as possible. And I haven't been interested in Twitter until recently actually, but I understand now that it can be a powerful tool!

I would certainly agree that Twitter is addictive and yet if you weren't addicted I think it would much harder to use Twitter.

It was a bit of a pain using my browser for Twitter but now that I am using Twhirl I have it running continually in the background and notices when ever any one twitters I am following or from those that are following me.

I started using Twhirl about a week ago and I don't think I would stop using it. It just has too many cool features that make my Twittering easier and faster.
