The only time it is reasonable to go back and change an old blog post is to adjust one's grammar.

Kris, Thank you for this insightful article. I was just thinking about this topic this morning. Since I am starting a professional blog, I decided that I would revise content to keep it up to my standards. I especially like that you added "spelling and grammar mistakes, small factual errors, broken links, etc."!!!

I revise old posts based on search engine activity. If I notice search engine hits I'll revise it to make it look fresh to Google and to help direct that traffic how I would like for it to go.

For example, I had an old post on the Lost TV show that suddenly got a lot of activity due to things that happened on the show. I edited that post to include a link to a friend of mine's blog where there was an active discussion and to help them out with their new entertainment blog.

I do go back over my previous posts but usually leave the original context of the article in place. I will adjust for keywords or something like that, especially if I see that there is one post that is being seen over all the others and it is a little outdated. Scott

I go back and edit post regularly.

If you see that you're getting SE traffic for a broad match term (the actual term isn't on the page verbatim), and you're ranking reasonably well but not in the top couple of spots, why wouldn't you go back and make sure you've got the exact match term in your post?

I always leave my old posts in tact if there could be more content added then I write it as a new post and reference the old. It is interesting after a few months when you look back at your old posts and see how much your writing has improved it creates a personal time capsule.
