A long-time freelance writer, I get so many queries from wannabe freelance writers asking how to get started. They get so bogged down in the details that never do the one thing that's guaranteed to bring in a job, which is to start sending out queries. Simple, direct to the point emails work; don't worry about what a query is, the proper format, blah, blah, blah. With the plethora of information on the web, it's easy to get sidetracked by "research." When I started my blog (after procrastinating for months), I simply sat down, created a blogger account and started writing. Over three years later, I'm still at it. I had no idea what it would become. It had to find it's legs, which happened, with every post I made. Sometimes you have to "write your way into a voice, a style, a brand."
