jblantonSaying Thank You

Written by jblanton from Success For Your Blog on March 6, 2008

One of the best things you can do is show your readers you appreciation.

So the first thing I’d like to do is thank everyone that takes the time out of their busy day to stop by and read my articles here on BloggingTips. But I’d like to go a step further and go through all my past posts and subscribe to everyones blog (provided they have one) that has left a comment.

As you have probably already guessed this is a prelude into my next blogging tip. Which is to show your appreciation to your readers.

There are several ways you can do this so let me cover some that I use. If you have some of your own favorite feel free to leave a comment and share with us all. At the very least you’ll get a Thank You in return in the way of a new subscriber to your blog. :wink:

Commenters - As I’ve mentioned its easy enough to show your appreciation to those that comment by commenting back, subscribing to their blog or leaving a comment on their blog.

MyBlogLog,BlogCatalog and other - If you have the code to capture MyBlogLog avatars its easy enough for you to join their community or send them a personal message expressing your appreciation for stopping by your blog and encourage them to subscribe or join our community.

Blogs that give you links - Its always nice to leave a comment on the blog that gave you the link. You could also return the favor in the future by linking to their blog or an article. If your unsure how to tell who is linking to you check your “My Dashboard” section if using WordPress in the “Blog Reactions”.

These are just a few of the ways to show your appreciation to your readers.

    Some good tips there Jason. I use all of them apart from the 2nd, which im now going to implement into my new blog design when its complete.

    Another method which works really well is a plugin called LinkLuv. When somebody leaves a comment on my blog, the plugin automatically searches their website/blog for an rss feed. if it detects one, it will place a link to their latest blog post under their comment on my blog. This is not only a nice surprise and a thank you for them leaving the comment, but it also encourages them to leave future comments on my posts, because they know they will get some promotion.

    See it working in action on my blog at: http://swiftmediauk.co.uk/blog/index.php/2008/03/06/increase-blog-readership/

    I agree Jason. Good etiquette includes ‘Thank you’ and going the extra mile to show your appreciation by reciprocating in some way.

    Those that do these little personal extras will always be rewarded for it long term.

    I just write a “Thank you for your comment” email to every new commenter I get. This has proved to be quite effective, as most of them email back and I guess it has been a good contributor to my growing readers count. In the case of links, I use to go and thank for the link with a comment on the post. But I do not subscribe to every blog unless it belongs to my niche or wrotes about a particular subject I may find useful… I already have lots to read in my GReader!

    @Guillermo
    Great idea. That’s the first time I heard about sending thank you emails to commenters. Like any business, I am sure going the extra mile helps keep people coming back. Thanks for the tip!
