We are so used in reading the guidelines first in blogging because most of us don’t want to take the risk of not succeeding when venturing in this new realm. This could be considered as the reason why most bloggers want to have an answer for this concern rather than finding out the answer themselves.
Many people have also asked or raised this concern to me and I am going to share with you what I have given to them: IT DEPENDS.
It depends because the topic that you are writing about plays a big part in making these tags and categories useful. If you have a niche blog and almost all of the categories could link together, then it is better to have multiple categories or tags rather than just one. The purpose of this is for search engines to pick up your blog as a vital resource for that topic. If you are rather focusing on your personal blog or “anything goes” blog, it would be preferable if you stick to one or two tags each so that it would be easier for the search engine’s part as well as for your blog readers.
When thinking of blog categories or tags, think of it as the main topic which is understandable by itself yet still could be broken down into little pieces. How about you, what can you say about the importance of blog categories or tags? ![]()

There is definitely a difference between good tags and bad tags. My biggest question I keep asking myself is are there ever too many tags on a post, especially when the blog is in it infancy? Categories you can certainly have too many of but lots of tags on the early posts seems like a way to really keep content available down to road. On the other hand I have a new blog a couple of weeks old, and found that with a dozen posts letting WordPress and the plugins do the work I ended up have more than 300 total tags.
also is the addition spam protection an available plugin or something from your host?
