Kris LarsonBlogs that connect

Written by Kris Larson from Carthage on February 28, 2008

A sobering moment for all us bloggers in the ‘sphere. The author of the blog Brain Hell died on February 2. His blog chronicled the diagnosis and gradual progression of his illness, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and was an amazing, moving series of letters to the world. As he preferred to remain anonymous while he was alive, I will refrain from using his name here.

The blog is still online. Seeing all the loving comments after each entry serves as a reminder that blogs can connect us to one another. No matter how alone you may be feeling, stuck in your room or your cubicle with your computer, remember that you don’t blog in a vacuum.

Less hands-on, but still important, the New York Times launched their new Baghdad Bureau Blog, a series of ongoing posts by their reporters on the difficulty of living in Iraq now. (This will be about the difficulty for the Iraqi people, not for the reporters, who after all can go home.) Check it out.

I initially got into blogging as a motivation for myself to do stuff (push-ups at the time). But as I was blogging, I really found that I was becoming part of a community, without even really intending to.

    Keep on bloggin’ I guess.
