There are times when one blog isn’t enough. You need another blog, or two.
There are many reasons for creating another blog. For example, two reasons you may decide to create another blog is when one blog becomes large and unwieldy, or when you want to draw special attention to a topic, or a product.
Is your blog too large?
You may decide to create another blog when your original blog becomes too big. Once you’ve been blogging for a year or two, and have hundreds - or even thousands of posts - information gets lost on your blog.
Not only is this a challenge for your readers because they get confused when confronted with such a mass of information, it’s a challenge for you, too. What have you written about? What information needs to be updated?
You can deal with this “too much information” problem in a couple of ways. You can write “what you’ve missed” blog posts, providing links to posts deep within your blog, or you can hive off the information and can create new niche blogs from categories on your original blog.
For example, if your blog’s topic is weight loss, you could create a new niche blog from your “Popular Diets” category.
A special topic or product deserves its own blog
Another reason you may decide to create a new blog is when you’re developing a new topic, or want to blog about a new product.
Staying with our previous example, if you’re blogging about weight loss, you may decide to create a new blog to cover weight loss for new mothers, or for teenagers.
If you’re blogging for your business, you could opt to launch a new blog to create publicity for a new product, or a special event.
There are many reasons for creating a new blog. If you’re thinking about creating another blog, just ask yourself “Will it benefit my readers?” If it will, then you have all the reason you need.

Thanks Angela, I have been thinking about splitting a couple of my hobby blogs into more than one blog to give them a finer focus. I wasn’t totally convinced that I should as I tend to get myself over-worked.
I will have to start with my fly fishing site and see what I can do before fishing season opens here April 15.

Funny that you should write on this Angela. I was just turning this over in my mind last week. Lately, I’ve been blogging a lot about SEO writing and wondering if I should start a blog about that, separtate from my main blog, which discusses “everything freelance writing.”
I don’t know if I have the time or energy, but you’ve definitely given me some grist for thought.
Best,
Yuwanda

Hi Angela… your post hits very close to home for me these days. Right now I’m in the process of starting another blog and website.
To build a solid readership I didn’t want to mix the two even tho they are somewhat related(marketing).
As you wrote “A special topic or product deserves its own blog”…
I’d rather start a new blog from scratch specifically focused on my niche rather than trying to be all things to all people.
