It is true that you have to dress your blog well at the time of traffic peak. You have to get the best out of the traffic you get from any source. I wrote a post for freelance folder on the art of getting freelance work using forums and I did expect good traffic from the blog. I mainly had two links in the author info box. One was to my main page and the other was to my hire me page. I tweaked these two pages before I posted the article in the blog.
Here’s what I did:
I posted an interview of Caroline Middlebrook, which you can read from my blog. I interviewed her few days back knowing that I will have a post at freelance folder in a week. People always like to read interviews and that’s the reason I added the post at the time of my publishing of my article at freelance folder.
I removed all the content from my hire me page and wrote a new hire me page. I tried my best to make it professional. I added testimonials I got from few people and posted it. I changed the style of my contact form from the general one to a professional one which will give people the option to select one of the reasons why they are contacting me. One of the options was “Freelance Proposal”.
So these were the two changes that I made for the blog before publishing the article at Freelance folder.
Here are few things you can do to dress up your blog the right way at times of traffic peak:
1. Welcome Your Readers
Write a post welcoming the readers from whatever source they are coming. Darren does this most of the times when he gets mentioned in any newspaper. I picked this tip from his blog. Write a post welcoming them and telling them the reasons why they have to subscribe to your blog. Tell them why your blog is one the best blogs out there in the blogosphere. Make a list of some of your best posts.

2. Post Link Bait
Link Bait works any time. Write top notch content or a link bait post. People always like link bait. But there are many types of link bait and I would love to stick with humor. Don’t post wrong information about other bloggers or people as this may result in negative traffic.
3. Offer a Gift to Subscribe
If you have written an e-book or if you have a master resale right for any e-book, give it as a gift to the new readers of your blog when they subscribe. Pick a product that belongs to your niche. You cannot give an e-book on how to lose weight in make money online blog. Choose smartly and promote properly.
4. Say Hi and Thanks to New Readers
This is not possible to do with all the new readers. Have a mybloglog widget and take a look at every new reader’s profile in mybloglog. Go to their blog or website and see if they have a contact option. Say a ‘hi’ or a ‘thanks’ to them for visiting your blog and ask them to visit again for more good articles.
How do you dress your blog at times of traffic peak? Do you do any of the above? Share your experiences in the comments.

Great post Ramkarthik, I think another good tip is to show users the way they can subscribe, but also tell them how it works. A lot of internet users are still unaware of what an RSS feed is, and what it can do for them, therefore telling them what it is, and just pushing them in the right direction helps with your subscriber counts, and the users feel they gained something from you blog, other than what you others posts is about.

Interesting. I’ll take care of the points mentioned when my blog gets linked by a popular one
I’ve seen blogs highlighting the best post in the main fold when they get featured/get visits from high quality blogs.
Thanks for the tips!

Due to the fact that I am not always sitting in front of my PC, I will not know when some of my posts eventually got hot on social media and bring in traffic peak. All I have then is that one post that they came over for.
I know that sometimes we can predict that there will be an upcoming peak, such as if I had a chance to interview a popular blogger like Caroline but predictions can go wrong as well though.
