Chris CoyierOrganizing Your Blog’s Advertisers

Written by Chris Coyier from CSS-Tricks on February 8, 2008

If you have multiple advertisers on your blog, you really need to make an effort to keep them organized. Since different advertisers start at different times, it can get confusing quickly. There are a million ways to stay organized with this, but here is how I do it.

I have an “Advertising” folder in the folder I keep in the folder for all my blog stuff. Inside that folder I have a “* Current Advertisements” folder. I add the star so it stays at the top. Within that I keep a file I keep:

  • A file with a little code snippet I use to insert new ads
  • A file with a list advertising contacts including “potential” advertisers
  • A bunch of folders with “Expiration Dates”

Keeping my folder organized this way lets me know at a quick glance which ads are coming up on renewal. Within those folders, I keep a copy of the ad itself as well as a “Notes” file with information about who purchased the ad, when, how, etc.

How do you stay organized with the advertisements on your blog?

Personallya I use google calendar with reminders of when it got in and when it should get out.

Haven’t found a plugin that fully fulfills my needs so one has to improve a litle.

This is an interesting topic. Im currently using the calendar function in windows mail to remind me but that is hardly the best solution. Ive been meaning to download a good scheduler which will pop up and tell me when an ad is expiring.

I also use a specific Google Calendar for tracking advertisers, product reviews and contests.
