jblantonThe easiest way to get links when your site is pretty new

First thing I should do is clarify the title. This is the easiest way to get links without spending a small fortune buying links from a link Broker. Ok now that I have you all excited, here is my big secret. Here it is . . . Hold a competition. That’s the big secret. Pretty easy right?

Now before you just go throwing up a blog competition you need to define everything like it’s a marketing campaign. Because that is essentially exactly what it is, a marketing campaign.

So let’s run through this real quick. We’ll create a list of things to cover in our competition to ensure that it is as successful as possible. I am currently holding a Blog competition on Success For Your Blog, so feel free to check that one out and enter if you’d like.

The prize: Make it a desirable prize like a gadget that people want but don’t necessarily what to shell out for. The more desirable the more entries you’ll get.

What do they have to do to enter? In this case we are looking to increase links. So have them write a post on their blog and include a link back to your blog. If you want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to enter give those without a blog an alternative way to enter.

Deadline: Make sure you put a specific date that all entries need to be received by.

How are you going to promote your competition? This is the piece that needs the best planning. How are you going to get word about your competition? Do you have enough traffic coming to your blog? Or will you need other places to promote? I have seen a few people buying an ad spot on high traffic sites recently for the exclusive purpose of promoting a Blog Competition. Here is also a list of 20 competition blogs you can promote on.

So if you’re looking to gain some more exposure then a blog competition might just be the way to go.

I have been reading a lot of posts on blog competitions but didn’t do anything, well I think it is time I did my first blog competition and see how it goes.

I am following the other two links you provided so I will get it right the first time. I guess there is always a fear of screwing up at these things. :)

I think a good prise would be a 125×125 ad block on my site or perhaps this huge wide screen TV I have, it’s so big I have to sit a the neighbors house to watch it.

Okay I was kidding about the TV.
