I personally am new to blogging and am actively marketing my blog on a daily basis. i think another good marketing tip which works extremely well for me is the use of social networking sites like digg, stumbleupon, reddit and so on. I receive a huge amount of traffic as a result of those sorts of sites, and therefore believe it to be one of the best marketing tools available to bloggers.

Social networking sites do a great job, but just for fast and artificial traffic.
But you can use them for deep link building.

Recently I read on a popular blog that Google may consider penalizing those sites that are involved in excessive link exchanging for increasing PR. Is it right or not?
Thanks for all the great comments concerning the issue of promoting your site with free tools. Guess I hit on something everybody needs every day. I've never heard of something called the "book marking demon" but I will look into it.
I am also unaware of Google penalizing sites that use too much link exchanges. You might have that mixed up with Google's dislike for site owners who PAY for link exchanges instead of hooking up with like-minded sites for free exchanges.
I have actually written articles on what Google considers unfair- just look for all of my older articles under my name on this site.
You cant go wrong with giving away promotional gifts like this. Everybody loves free stuff no matter what the stuff is!

These are very good ideas. I have used them. I have found that social book marking and posting articles on Squidoo. I have recently started bog and forum postings also
Commenting on other blogs is another way to promote your blog for free. I find that commenting allows you to give people a snippet of your point of view on various topics. Of course, it's also free, and you can do it on any number of high-trafficked blogs, thus increasing your exposure.
