Elaine RamosAre You Blogging or Babbling?

Written by Elaine Ramos from Good Recruits on January 21, 2008

blah.

There are times wherein this word just pops in my head and refuses to go away even if I did everything humanely possible to get rid of it. I consider this as my “downtime” where my blogging could be considered as babbling.

Personally, I consider babbling as acceptable as long as you explain or even give justice to your mood. Hey, everyone’s entitled to a bad blogging day…. even blogaholic people like us. If you want to avoid babbling in your post, here are some of the things which I do in order to divert my blah mode:

a. Read news - This keeps my mind stimulated and also helps me to find new avenues to explore rather than just being stuck in that phase. Aside from that, being updated would do wonders for your blog!

b. Listen to music - There are times where I like listening to music but there are also times where I want peace and quiet in my atmosphere. During this kind of situation, listening to music would be a big help in shifting that kind of mood when working.

c. Read your past posts - This keeps me focused especially when I read about my favorite blog posts and comments which made me smile, laugh and think. If you do not have any time in checking up your past posts and blogging style, now is the best time to do so. You might even be surprised with what you have learned!

Do you have other suggestion to erase the “blah” in your mind when blogging?

I also read past posts when getting ideas. Although, if that doesn’t help I look to other blogs or recent experiences for new content.

Very good examples, Elaine. Great post.

Good point, I think some authors make the mistake of writing blog posts like they are at home talking to their dog or something. Remember, real people are going to read this stuff and its not just your personal diary.

I agree these are all good ways of finding inspiration - another trick I use is to read a few of my favourite blogs. They often inspire me with ideas for a new post - either my own views on a topis they covered, or going over a point they made in more detail, or they just set off my creativity and I think of something totally new!

I also find it helps to brainstorm lots of ideas every now and then, then when I’m stuck I have ideas to look at.
