hey mike,
wow, thanks for verifying that very fact about helping others to help yourself...

thats totally true.... for me, My site hasn't even been endexed by the major search engines simply cause my ISP sucks so badly and won't allow google to verify it...
but over the last year, I've gained over a 1000 new visitors to my site per month www.patternstudioa.com just from my own popularity from my fashion groups on all the social networks and my clients that i do my service for....(about 300 people in my files) and these people have more people, and they have more... it's a snow ball....as well as registering my site on www.designersearch.com and others....
you are so right.....
i also; offer help others with sewing and pattern tips, free and then they tell thier people...

my question to you, is what can i do to make my pattern book into an ebook that I can put on my site to sell it... my clients want me to copy it, but that takes so much out of me.... could you help me make it an ebook? Please, and I'd like to add you to my site and tell my people about you.
thanks

Michael,

This is so true! The longer I blog (it will be one year tomorrow, in fact), the more this truth plays out in my experience. Thanks for expressing it so clearly for those who may not yet be aware of it.

Wishing you the best!

Thanks again, everyone. A post about giving in blind faith probably wouldn't go over too well, but if there is a "secret behind the secret" it is to give with no expectation of reciprocation or score-keeping. You will receive more than you give, but thinking about that in advance kinda spoils it. It's best if you can just give without thinking about what you might get from a person in the future.

Some really great tips there for anyone in blogging. I think you got it quite right that blogging is highly dependent on relationship building with other bloggers.

You nailed it, Michael. It's very difficult to achieve success in any endeavor without building relationships, even in a virtual world.

I really enjoyed this post, Michael.

I've only been running my own blogs for about 4 months now, and I am definitely learning that giving turns into receiving. I think that's really what is meant when people say, "It's who you know," but the meaning of that phrase gets misconstrued as, "Only those who already know people at the top can get anywhere," which is totally discouraging. Maybe what that phrase really means is, "Get out there and do something helpful for someone else." And bam! Now you know someone!

Thanks for the great post!

What is the mailing list you mention? I would be interested in joining it, both as someone who can answer the occasional question as well as add my own question here and there.

Yes, I totally agree, there is nothing gained in life without helping others along the way.

Providing great content, tips, tutorials and resources are a great way to help others.

I am involved with a Networking business and help people all the time. I help them fix their blog, keyword research, article ideas, fix plug ins, finding the right server, any other problems they may be having etc.

Building relationships is the key.
