Juggling blogsIf you happen to be the type of blogger who finds that one blog just isn’t enough, you could be juggling several blogs that demand constant feeding. Here are some tips on multitasking for multiple blogs.

Create a Blogging Schedule

This can be crucial. If you just post on whichever blog whenever the mood strikes, you may find that a blog or two gets neglected. That’s especially true if you, like many bloggers, do your blogging on top of a full time job and/or raising children.

Be sure to create a blogging schedule, and stick to it. You can use a calendar like the one in Outlook, or online calendars like Google’s, or just use a wipe board over your computer. Just make sure you set aside time for each blog, and that you are realistic about how much time it takes. Don’t just plan for time to write a post, but also for research, email, dealing with comments, and so on.

Experiment with the Blog Schedule

There are a couple ways to handle the schedule, and you might even experiment with both. One is to allot a certain amount of time each day to each blog. The problem with this plan is that no one blog gets much attention.

What I actually prefer is assigning each blog a day of the week, and making that day’s focus that blog. That doesn’t mean a breaking news item relevant to blog #3 gets ignored on Wednesdays just because that day belongs to blog #5. But it does mean most of your effort on a blog’s particular day goes to that blog.

Be Organized About Your Blogging

To make a schedule work, you really need to be organized and focused. There are a few tricks to make your blogging more planned and less impulsive.

  • Organize your reading of blogs that you might link to or refer to. Sites like Bloglines are a great way of doing that, especially for a multiple blog blogger. You can have a category for each of your blogs, and keep all the appropriate feeds from fellow bloggers right in there. That will allow you to quickly see all the latest posts related to your blog topic.
  • Organize your bookmarking. One issue with posting to multiple blogs is you see something and you want to post about it now before you forget where you saw it. Create a bookmark folder for each of your blogs. That way, when you see something that would be interesting to blog about, you can drop it into that folder to find easily later.
  • Drip your blogs. If you are using a blog system that allows it, take advantage of your schedule to do a week’s worth of blog posts that aren’t timely ahead of time. Set them to publish throughout the week to keep your blog looking fresh. If you can’t post-date, simply save blog posts into a Word document to post later.
