Like most blogs, BloggingTips gets it’s fair share of spam. It’s a real pain in the ass but up until now it’s not been a major hassle for me.
At the start of this blog’s life Akismet was catching just about every spam comment which was left. A few months ago I was getting 2 or 3 spam comments left on posts. The plugins that automatically email a commenter or display a blurb at the top for first-time visitors suggesting they subscribe to your RSS feed might be hurting you. I’m not going to single them out by their names, but you know which ones I’m talking about. I have nothing against the people who created these plugins, but I can’t stand the way they’re used.
