It’s almost 2008, so in addition to creating some New Year’s resolutions for a brighter and happier 2008, why not create some blog-specific resolutions?
Whether you’re a new blogger, or are a blogging pro, it’s time to review how far you’ve come in 2007. Create some blog-goals for 2008.
Take a few minutes to review your blog – its search engine rankings and the income it has produced. If your blog is a promotional tool rather than an income-generator, “income” could mean prospects and leads your blog has found for you, and opportunities the blog has created.
Now create some goals for 2008. Write your goals down.
Let’s look at five New Year’s resolutions you could set for your blog to help you to meet your blog-goals for 2008. Add any additional resolutions you can think of.
1. I will create a blogging schedule and will stick to it
Although you’re committed to blogging, the best way to ensure that you add content to your blog consistently is by creating a blogging schedule. Enter “new blog post” into your calendar program. You could post a new entry once a day, once a week, or on any other schedule which makes sense for your blog.
To help you to stick to your schedule, commit to the next resolution.
2. I will plan blog posts, and blog series to keep content flowing
Sometimes you feel creative, and sometimes you don’t. To keep to your blogging schedule, commit to spending half an hour a week jotting down post subjects and titles, as well as ideas for some new blog series.
Don’t worry about researching your ideas in this weekly session, just jot them down.
3. I will research my blog’s readers so I can inform and entertain them
When you know who your readers are, you can get a handle on what information would help them most.
Run a poll on your blog so you can find out what readers want.
4. I will make my blog the center of my online social network
Have you discovered social networking? It’s time to find out what Web 2.0 is all about, and how you can build your traffic by joining social networks and becoming active on them.
5. I will review and measure my blog’s progress regularly
Measure your blog’s progress once a month. Keep the results in a spreadsheet.
You could measure:
* the number of feed readers you have
* daily traffic
* daily income and monthly income, and income sources
So there you have it – five blogging New Year’s resolutions to set, and to keep.

A good post, Angela, but let’s not forget to make those goals measurable. If our goal is to research our readers, let’s set specific goals within that so we know what to measure. Rather than “review and measure my blog regularly”, let’s set a specific, measurable time, such as “review and measure my blog once a month”.
For goals to be effective, they must be measurable.
