If you’re like me, and a total blogaholic, then you may write for more than one blog. You also may be known as an expert in a particular area, which means you could run multiple blogs or guest blog on subjects that are similar or have crossover topics.
One day, you may find you sit down to write a blog and realize you are just about to target keywords you’ve already targeted elsewhere. It isn’t really all that far-fetched. If you are guest blogging to promote your blog, you will want to do that on a blog with a similar topic.
It would be silly to compete against yourself for the same keyword phrase in many instances, although I suppose if you are lucky you could end up with the top two results in Google. Odds are more likely you will have one page that performs well, and another that doesn’t perform as well for search engines.
A better tactic is to research alternative keywords to target. For example, let’s say you have a post that targets the phrase Christmas presents, and you’ll write a similar post for another blog. Instead of emphasizing those same keywords in your title, tags and content, find another popular keyword phrase like holiday gifts.
It can also be helpful to look for a different angle on a similar issue. That will avoid duplicate or content that is just too similar. If your first post was about Christmas presents, the second can be about homemade Christmas presents. That isn’t as popular as a search term, but there is also less competition. The nice thing is you can always link to your first post in that second post, if appropriate.
Juggling SEO on multiple blogs isn’t always easy, but it’s certainly worth it to keep your previous posts from one blog in mind when posting on another blog.

Very well put. Thanks for your good information and please keep it comming.
Ah, very true. I’ve had two blogs going at the same time about political issues. I finally decided to split them into two political /types/ — economics and “other”.
Great suggestions. I also think it’s important to be very selective about the blogs you guest write for. At the very least, make sure that they are higher traffic blogs than your own. When your content is getting paraded in front of a lot of native subscribers who are interested in your topic, SEO can take a backseat.
Nice tips! Nice blog!
