The “Never” List in Blogging

People are always fond of doing things that is restricted to them or are prohibited to them. Perhaps it is the allure of doing forbidden but in the blogging world, doing these things could cost you a lot. I’ve formulated a list of things that bloggers should NEVER do in blogging but most bloggers have already done at least once in their blogging life.

Here are is a “Never to do list” that bloggers should take note when blogging regardless if they are experienced or not.

a. NEVER copy/steal another blogger’s post.
b. NEVER forget to credit quotes or facts from the original source.
c. NEVER post untrue information (unless you’ve acknowledged it as an “unconfirmed” one).
d. NEVER post your picture in your profile when blogging 3x a day.
e. NEVER ignore your readers/relevant comments
f. NEVER forget to communicate.
g. NEVER forget humor, being witty and polite.
h. NEVER give up when the blogging seems so tough.

Can you add to my “Never” list in blogging?

Great article but I am not sure why “d. NEVER post your picture in your profile when blogging 3x a day.”

Why is it bad to do that?

  2. c. NEVER post untrue information (unless you’ve acknowledged it as an “unconfirmed” one).

If you’re posting something you know to be untrue in my opinion it could still be considered to be libelous even if you say it is “unconfirmed”. I would be very careful with that one.

    d. NEVER post your picture in your profile when blogging 3x a day.

As with esvl I also don’t understand this one. I suppose if you’re in a full time job it might look suspicious to your employer but I would say using your name would be more dangerous.

  3. Rhys says:

c: it depends what you’re referring to. I can get away with posting untrue stuff largely on the nature of my blog, being humourous, and for the purposes of comedy ;)

    d: I don’t understand.

But other than that, good list. As a 5 year blogger, I’d like to add

i: NEVER do it solely to make money, as it doesn’t work.

  4. Lori says:

I agree with the others…I don’t understand the d..the picture one?

  5. Elaine Ramos says:

If you are blogging more than 3x a day, there is a chance that it won’t be your best.. sorry for the confusion!

  6. web tools says:

    My add:
Never publish a post without an image.

  7. Maybe you could also add “NEVER forget your health”. You see, I am not a doctor but I consider that aspect too.

  8. I have to agree with Guardian Angel.

Don’t blog without a schedule exercise time. Once your health is gone you just might not have the energy to do the research and posting you planned on.

I smoked and didn’t exercise and didn’t go to bed either, when I started back in 2001 and by 2004 I was almost dead. A bit of a workaholic, but not any longer.

Exercising also helps your brain get the blood and oxygen it needs to be creative and active. Go take a walk
