Getting That Blogging Gig

Posted by on 19th Nov 2007 Blogging 2 comments

Getting hired as a blogger is tougher than before because more and more people are also applying for the said position. First impressions usually last thus a very effective cover letter is essential when applying for the said position.

Here are some important information that you must include in your cover letter:

a. Blogging Experience – This is important regardless if you already have an established blog or even just your personal blog. This would help employers to gauge your blogging style. It would also be helpful if you would mention how long you have been blogging (e.g. months/years of experience, familiarity with WordPress, movable types, etc). so that it would somehow give you an edge to other candidates.

b. Links, Links, and Links – It is not enough that you mention your blog name and not include the link. The fact that you are lazy enough to post the links your cover letter and let the employers do the job of researching your blog in the net says a lot about you as a blogger.

c. Indicate Relevant Achievements – Applying is not a time for shyness and in fact, bragging (though not too much) your achievements is the perfect time for this. For example, being interviewed or featured by other blogs or magazines is a great plus when considering you for that blogging gig.

d. Indicate your blogging rate – Not all job postings are able to indicate how much they are willing to pay you so it would be better if you would mention your standard blogging rate and whether or not this would still be negotiable. This is important because it would be able to set expectations for both sides.

I hope these tips would help in getting your own blogging gigs. Good Luck!
