5 ‘Less Used’ Ways To Get New Subscribers

Posted by on 10th Nov 2007 | 15 comments

It is always a blogger’s dream to get many subscribers. They set goals every month. Say, I want to reach 500 subscribers this month and I’m at 100 right now, then I, not only have to write extremely good and useful content, but I should also try new ways of getting subscribers to my blog. The following ways are not used much and this can help everyone get good increase in subscribers.

Give Away An E-Book
If you are good at a particular niche, then write an e-book and give it to your subscribers when they subscribe to your blog. Chris used this method very well and this must have resulted with a good number of subscribers for his blog. Not only do people like free give away but they also like to read an e-book which covers a lot of information. You can attach the link to the e-book to your feed using this plugin which Chris used.

Create A Video
Videos have nearly equal power as your writings. Make a video about a particular subject, display a link to your blog through out the video at the bottom, and upload it in Youtube, Google Video, Metacafe and the other sites. This method is free yet powerful. Also give a link to your blog in the description. This method will get traffic, new readers, and probably a handful of new subscribers.

Use Forums
Forums can increase your subscriber count if you use it to your advantage. Forums give the members an option to add a link to their blog in signature. Use a mind-capturing word as the anchor text. Also when new bloggers ask a few questions, step forward to answer them and if you give a proper answer, then the newbie is sure to become your blog’s new subscriber. One thing you shouldn’t do in forums is spamming. You might be removed from the forum if you do so. You can also use Yahoo Answers just like the way you use forums.

Guest Posts
Believe it or not, guest blogging is a great way to increase your subscriber count. I have written many guest posts for famous blogs and this has resulted in the increase of subscribers for my blog. I can show you an example where a commentator in one of my guest posts wrote that he has just subscribed to my blog after reading the post. Thanks to him. Guest post also helps you building your profile online. You will be noticed by the A-list bloggers if you write for a famous blog.

Direct Contacts
One another best way to get subscribers to your blog is by direct contact. Meet a bunch of bloggers, talk to them openly, and discuss with them about your niche. Then give them something they would like. When everyone is about to leave, tell them they can subscribe to your blog for more tips on your niche. The next day you will see a couple of new subscribers to your blog. Two days later, two more of them will subscribe.

Other than quality content, what methods have you used to get new subscribers? Did they work? Share it in the comments.

I am planning to give free e-book to my subscribers. Thanks for that link to plugin.

I asked people to subscribe. Wrote up an article asking for subscribers and posted it. It is still drawing in new readers. Like I said in one of my posts sometimes you just need to ask for what you want

Not only are these lesser well-known methods, they are some of the most powerful and effective ones, in my experience. I would add that guest blogging works both ways. If you have guest bloggers, they will send their own readers to you, and your subscriber count will rise.

Good points… I just finished up a 3 part article for another blog which will end up being one of my first guest post articles once it is published. Perhaps it will give me a little boost in subscribers as well. Thanks, Scott

Great tips there, creating a video would be difficult for me, so I’m analyzing the possibilities of giving away an eBook.

BlogAboutNothing, True that when you need something then ask for it.

Michael, I agree with you on that. I have seen many guest posters and freelance writers who have their own fan base and these readers read every post they write in any blog. This can be developed by writing good content every time.

Chipseo, That’s great to know you have written a guest post which will be published soon. Share with me, your results.

Shankar, Its not very tough to make a video. Since your blog is about technology, review a software using a video. Download Camtasia free trial and make a video. Then edit the video with your url and post it youtube or any other site. It’s as easy as that.

Great to know you have an e-book to give. It would be great to read the e-book.

Because of my blogs topic nature I try and do a lot of forum posting to generate traffic. From my experience the best method of getting hits is to be a real contributor. Once people understand that you know your stuff they will easily be interested in checking out your blog.

I also do some guest writing and that helps too.

Daniel, Good to hear that you have benefited from Forum postings and guest postings.

Well… so far, it has been sitting in their "drafts" waiting to be published for the past 10 days, so we will see :???:

It will be my first guest post so I am not really sure what is and what isn't "normal", but I will post a quick blurb on my blog when it is published. Scott

p.s. just sent over a pingback to this article for you, great post here, thanks.
