Kevin MuldoonCustom Title Attribute Plugin

Written by Kevin Muldoon from System0 on November 7, 2007

Sarah G from ‘Stuff by Sarah‘ has kept herself busy since the release of her first WordPress Plugin ‘What Others Are Saying‘ (check out the footer of BloggingTips to see Sarah’s first plugin in action!) and a few days ago she released her second plugin called ‘Custom Title Attributes‘.

What does the plugin do?

By default, WordPress gives the title attribute of any page link the same text as the anchor text. This plugin allows you to change the title attribute of any page you create. You might be thinking to yourself that this is a very simple plugin and I would agree however it’s also one which I believe to be very useful. It’s one of those plugin’s which makes you ask why it isn’t integrated into WordPress in the first place.

To help illustrate you what the plugin does , I’ll give you an example. I installed the plugin in my personal blog a few days ago. Once the plugin has been activated you will see a new area under the Save buttons called ‘Page Link Title Attribute (optional)’. It is in this area that you can edit the title attribute of your page.

So for my about page I entered ‘More info on Kevin Muldoon’ :

After I saved the page I hovered over the link to my about page and saw my new title in action :

Overview

As I mentioned before, the basic premise of this plugin is very simple however it’s a very useful plugin and well worth installing.

You can download the plugin from this page. Sarah gives great support on her blog so if you have any problems with it or have any suggestions as to how to improve it, I recommend letting Sarah know on her blog.

You are right, such a little thing should be in WP w/o a plug in… May be in the future.

Now, for the other one… Do we know a plugin allowing us to display the feeds other than the blogroll? ‘Cause it looks like this plugin works only for your blogroll… And another question… Why would I want to send traffic to other guys? An I not “feeding” the competition?

    Thanks for your comments

Guillermo, if you want to display feeds other than your blogroll links, just add the links and make them non visible in your WP Admin, this way they won’t display in your Blogroll list but will still work for the plugin. As for feeding the competition, I simply wrote the plugin after my bad experience with BlogRush and I’d rather give my favourite reads a bit of exposure over sites I have no control over ;)

SarahG… Thanks! New to WP, as you can see!

Actually, the question of feeding competition was for Kevin, as I see below some references to blogs in their niche. Sometimes I feel I should link more to some of my “competitors” and sometimes I’m not convinced at all about it, that’s why I asked. Kevin? Any thoughts?

I dont see them as competitors in the tradional sense…or any sense when I think about it. Just because someone reads problogger, doesnt mean they wont read blogging tips and vice versa.

I like to link to articles which I think visitors will enjoy and I like to recommend the blogs which I read.

    :)
