jblantonHoliday Themed Headlines and posts

Written by jblanton from Success For Your Blog on November 1, 2007

Holiday Themed titles are something I like to use because its something that’s fun and timely. And if your blogging and not having fun then there is a problem. Yesterday was Halloween, something that is celebrated in most of the world and almost always associated with having fun, dressing up, eating candy and an opportunity to hang out with friends.

I took the opportunity to create a post on my blog called Happy Halloween: Blogging Trick or Treat. The title as you can probably guess, used the popular Halloween tradition of Tick-or-Treating and blogging. I was able to give some blogging tricks as well as a treat as I was ending an blog contest and giving away an Apple iPod Video Nano.

The use of holidays is a great technique since the holidays are normally associated with comfort things. Spending time with family and friends, giving and getting gifts, and of course everyone’s favorite, eating.

Not only does this work because the headline catches your reader’s eye but because people are more likely to search for holiday related search terms right around that holiday. This gives you a little SEO boost as you write your articles with holiday related terms and phrases.

Of course there are also things to be aware of when using holidays. Not everyone that reads your blog is from the same country. So guess what? July 4th is only Independence day in the United States. Same goes for Thanksgiving. Christmas and Easter are only celebrated by some religions.. I only mention this as a caution. You can certainly use any holiday you prefer it just might not mean as much to some. And its always good practice to not offend your readers with your religious preferences.

Give it a shot and see how it works for you. All you have to do is use a little imagination and some clever headlines.

I think it is save to assume that all western countries are celebrating holiday - and at least when it comes to Germany, this is not celebrated as a religious tradition but rather as family time.

Yes, some people do go to church, but the majority does not. As such, seeing christmas related is a strange concept. It is about gifts and eating - and even more: free time off work.

Now Halloween on the other hand is something new in Germany (though the area I grew up actually has a trick or treat like tradition for new years eve) but I very much like it. So having those themes is cool and does belong to the “time” of the year and will generate happy feelings! ;)

Now if you excuse me, I think i will have to wirte finally my advent calender entry for those people from outside Germany ;)
