RamkarthikEffective Tips On How To Manage Time As A Part Time Blogger

Written by Ramkarthik from Blogging Tune on October 27, 2007

Blogging is a one of the best ways to earn money online. Everyone who enters the blogosphere do not make money. There are bloggers who make $10,000 per month and even more. But they are few in number. If you are not earning more than $1000 per month, don’t even think of quitting your day job. To earn $1000, you need to work hard and if you don’t have time, you will not be able to earn that money. So you have to manage time and have separate timings for blogging. Though I don’t earn $1000 per month, I know to manage time between my college and blogging. In fact, my college works from 8am-3pm and I have to study and do the assignment works for at least 2 hours a day. So here is how I manage time and how you can too:

Plan Well:
If you want to achieve something, you have to plan well. Have a writing pad with you all the time/ Write whatever you have to do on that day. Now split the time efficiently in such a way that you will be able to do all the work in the same day. Allocate extra 15 minutes for every work.

Use Every Single Minute:
If you travel by train to office, then do useful things at that time. You will get many good blog post ideas when you are outside and I always prefer to think for articles during my travel. I find most of the content ideas when I travel in train or bus.

Rise Early:
This should be the tough thing to do. But once you practice it, you will be able to wake up early everyday. When you rise early, you will have more time for working on blog post ideas. You can even jot down the points to be mentioned in the post. The main advantage of waking up early is that you will feel the silence. No sounds and nothing. Your mind will be free from stress and you will be more productive.

Early To Sleep:
In olden times, people use to follow this method:
“Early to bed, early to rise”
Sleep early and you won’t have the tiredness. If you are a person who is not used to sleep early, try to sleep half hour early. And after one week, sleep half more hour early. In this way, practice to sleep early. If you sleep early, you will rise up early.

Don’t Check Stats Often:
Surely this is what most newbie bloggers do. You are not going to get a sudden increase in AdSense earnings or get Dugg to home page for every single post you make. So don’t bother checking it. If the stats are unchanged, you will become sad. So please stop checking your stats very often.

Avoid Using IMs For A Long Time:
If you are an addict to Instant Messengers like Yahoo, Gtalk and others, then managing time is very hard. You really have to cut short the time you spend using those IMs. You might not benefit from a normal chat with someone who is not of help to you but chat with a blogging friend and you will get content ideas. Try to cut short the time you spend on IMs and see how much extra time you have.

Read Only Good Posts:
Many bloggers have so many blogs in their feed. The bloggers who efficiently manage time, don’t read all the blog posts. See the title and if it is for you, read it. Don’t waste time in reading posts that are of no use to you. At the same time, make sure you don’t miss the good ones.

When you follow the above things, you will probably have more time to spend for blogging. When I started blogging, I didn’t have time to blog everyday and as time passed by, I started to manage time well. Let me say all these in one line:
“Do whatever you feel is a must and forget what you think is not a must.”
So let me wish you happy blogging and I hope all the part time bloggers will have more time to blog in the coming week.

Yes, I agree. Checking stats too often is really consuming much of my time. Hope I can stop doing that. You don’t gain much or you can plan your strategy by checking it thrice a day. Thanks RamKarthik.

Manick, Check your stats once per day. If you avoid checking often, and check only once a day, you will get more time available for blogging.

As a blogger myself, one who has several blogs on the go I know how hard it can be to manage time. I think all of your tips are fantastic! I think if people actually lived by them they would really see a difference in the amount of work they got done each day. Kudos to you!

Great tips for a student cum blogger like me. I would like to ask, rise early and sleep early means? As a teenager, I wake up at 8 o’ clock and sleeps at 2am. Does this match what you are saying?

I check my stats once every week since only after a week, a trend will form. It doesn’t provide good analysis if you compare today’s stats and yesterday’s stats right?

The last thing I do when I blog is to login to my Windows Live Messenger.

Talia, Glad you liked it. Managing many blogs/websites will be very tough and happy that you are able to do it well.

Wayne, Rise early in the sense wake up before 6.30am and sleep early in the sense sleep before 11am. Though it won’t suit for everyone, it will be a good habit to sleep early and wake up early. And you are exactly right in the part where you said about the stats. You won’t see much difference in stats if you are checking it often. Also logging into messenger after completing all the works is good habit.

I agree with most of the things you said, esp checking the stats multiple times a day. Everything else would be easy to follow from your list except “early to bed” esp when ppl are doing blogging as a part time activity.
