Want to rank #1 for something in the search engines? Make up a word and you’ll be #1 in no time! Let’s try it here. Bizzlemorth. Search for bizzlemorth in a few days, and you’ll find Blogging Tips ranking #1 for it. But wait! Who cares, right? What good will it do Kevin to rank #1 for the word bizzlemorth? The fact is, it won’t help Kevin at all, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t coin a new term now and then. Just do it wisely.
Lots of words and phrases have come into popular existance in the past simply because someone coined the term at some point. The word “linkbait” didn’t exist until someone used it for the first time. (No, I don’t remember who that someone was, but they likely ranked well for it for quite some time). The key is to not only coin a term, but to get others to use it as well. Once it is popular as a term, it will be searched for. Once it’s searched for, it’s valuable. As the person who coined the term, you hold some valuable search real estate.
Of course, you do have to defend your search position. As others use the term, they may eventually take over your #1 spot, but you still stand a very good chance of remaining in the top 10, especially if you acquired some early backlinks pointing to the page using that term as the anchor text. I would suggest that you also use the term in the title of your blog post to give it even more power.
So now and then, think about coining a new term. You might be the person who ranks well for the next BFF, noob, snail mail, or ezine. All it takes is a little creativity and some promotion.

You’ve made it to number 1 (of 1) for “bizzlemorth” already - way to go!
Now - all I need to know is… what does it mean? I can’t spread the word about the joys of bizzlemorth, and get people searching for te term, unless I know what it is.

LOL, that was quick! A definition, huh? Hm, how about we let Kevin decide that. Kevin? Want to rank well for something big? Tell us what Bizzlemorth is and maybe you’ll see fame and fortune soon.

Interesting points. It’s sort of like “blog” and “blogging”. A few years back when I started my first blog it wasn’t a household term, now my grandmother even knows what it is (ok, I’m stretching it there).
